In my quest of new cab and amp, I've come to considere Mark bass products, wich are astonishigly light and still in my cash abilities. I could get a 4x10 that weighs only 55 lbs (25 kg) and I read good things about these stuff.
In there actual line up, there are two 4x10 cabs with identical specs ; the only difference is that one is discribed as "front ported" and the other as "back ported". I can't find any word in my language that can translate or make me understand what "ported" means. Can someone bring clarity to my empty brain ; is there any difference in the sound between back or front ported ?

Thanks in advance

So this means ports are just those "holes" on the bottom or upper side of the cab, where the sound can escape ?

more like pre determinded amounts of air can escape so that the cab. is more bass responsive , & efficient. they are used to tune a cab.

Also bear in mind that a rear ported cab is likely to be slightly smaller. My Mark Bass Standard 4x10 has front porting on the top and bottom, which adds to the height. I believe their Traveller 4x10 is rear ported and shorter.

Feel free to correct me if I'm talking balls.

My understanding is that a ported cab is able to produce lower bass frequencies. Those chest rattling bass notes below 40hz. It's funny, I can stand 3 or 4 feet in front of my Trace Elliot 1x15 cab, and can feel a gush of air from the ports on lower notes.

Hey MNF, I've got the front ported model 4x10" , and although it looks like an Eden XLT...... it doesn't fart below a lo-G like the XLT does when you push it. and yes it's light! still a bit of weight to it but not for a 4x10". I think you'll be happy with it. and the price is good too.

MArco is the best inthe world. I am truly sorry that our alliance didnt work out. We are still friends and I have the highest respect for his products. Cliff is using them now and is in heaven

yep... so is Jeff Berlin.... he'll be here doing a clinic tomorrow night and I'll be helpin' out with the post clinic "MarkBass Test Drives" :D ..... should I try to get a pic of Berlin with the fretless5 Bongo???...hmmmm..... could be interesting

try and get a cabinet with horizontal "slot" ports on the front. them's the best if you ask me.
