What should I do with my new Power Slinky's

  • Put them on my HH which I am soon to part with but I'll be able to try them out now.

  • Put them on my H as soon as I get it, thereby obliviating a wonderfule EBMM setup.

  • Toss 'em in my case until I feel the need to change up my bass.

FedEx showed up on my doorstep with my Power Slinky's. Now, what to do with them, hmmm... The dilemmas we face in life.

Yes, this is a very silly poll.

Not sure. I dont think 'obliviating' a wonderful EBMM setup is a problem. As it is, i gave my HH a setup 5 minutes after i took it out of the box. People play basses differently, no?

Si. But I am an insecure tinkerer. Once I touch it, it never seems quite right and I'm always fussing about with it. If I'm told, from the factory, this is the way it is supposed to be, I play it as is. And while the factory setup may not be to taste, it is a good setup. :)

Heh, i gotcha. I myself prefer a straighter neck than the factory set it at, and i lower the action some as well, i like some buzz when i dig in...

Well... I went and did it. My curiosity got to me. Just got the strings on. I love that roundwound sound. Still working on the setup. Definitely different tension and alot of adjustment to the neck. Taking it slow so I'll sit down to cook dinner and then see how much the neck has settled in.

Figgy, i'm digging a bit of buzz when digging in as well. Finding this out as I'm doing the setup. I'll be tinkering with this for awhile. :D

If You Don't Mind The Finger Work-Out, You'll Like Them!

Try them, I think you'll like the sound of them. I tried them on my Stingray 5, and the the bottom two strings are simply killer bass tone! Your fingers do get a little workout, though.

Best wishes,

Well maddog, you thread inspired me. I just ordered a bunch of regular slinkies the other day to restring all of my basses, I was tempted to get some power slinkies, but too much of a panzy to tinker with the kick ass factory setup. Now that I read this I went and ordered a set of power slinkies and an EB strap. They should be here thursday. hopefully I'll have the courage to make the adjustments by then lol.

I don't think you'll be let down. I finally got them setup in a way that I like them. Got about 1/16" string height at 12 and about a business card at the 6th. The B feels nice. Nicer than any B I've dealt with but that has been few. I get a little fret buzz when I dig in but I'm digging the tone. They sound thicker than Slinky's and TI Powerbass. I luv 'em.
