I just got the Phil Jones Brief Case amp.Kinda pricey for the size, but it s a quality piece of gear. 599.00 spankaroons.

Great size though.Picks up every thing.Takes the low E no prob. They say will take the low B ,but dont have one of those to talk about .

Can also use it for my electric acoustics. They sound great through it.

Some of that gear is awsome but this is really just a practice amp and I am a relative beginner so will be learning on it mostly.

So only looking at around £150......

Hi Steve, not sure what the UK equivalent is but we've got orkville here and their BassMaster 50 with a single 10" is great, it's got a headphone out as well as stereo RCA in to plug in a CD player or what not. They run about $300 over here but you can gig with them and the warranty is great. I'd suggest just going to your local shop, not getting hung up on brand recognition and see what fits the budget and still makes ya imagine you're at Reading or Greenbelt!! :D

You should be able to pick up a Carlsbro for small money over there.

Almost got one of these, but the compactness of the PJB,and its ability to put out great sound for my electro acoustics sold me on it.As well as its ability to put out the bass.

The Carlsbro on the top didnt put out the acoustic sound that I liked. But for a straight bass amp it is a nice amp.Was only 200.00 yank bucks.

Those Ashdowns look hot though.

I think I'll root for the microbass, it has all the attributes I require plus is very cheap.

Thanks Guys, much appreciated - Now wait till I get on to strings - lol

I bought an SWR LA10 combo back in October.

35 watts through a 10 for $199.

Weighs only 33 lbs. Easy to move, feels solidly built and it's got a pretty good tone to it.

Loud enough for practice, or playing with acoustic guitars.

Not loud enough if Chaka Khan shows up at your practice session. :D

BTW, I like Chaka Khan. ;)
