I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI at home with a Line 6 M-13 stompbox modeler . . . this is my favorite practice setup. My wife sometimes complains when I crank it up, but I can get great tone even with the amp's volume set at 3 or lower using the M13's effects. I play an EBMM Axis, a variety of Fender Strats and Teles, and a PRS. This setup sounds great with all of them.

At the office, I have a VOX Valvetronix VT30. This is a GREAT little box with a good selection of on-board effects. Play as quietly as you like. And, it has a headphone jack, as well, to practice quietly during lunch. Price at GC is only $239.99. This amp is a TREMENDOUS VALUE. If I had to do it over again, I might have selected a VT50 or VT100 because they allow connection to an external speaker cabinet.

I also have a Blackstar HT-5H head plugged into a Mesa Rectofier 2x12 cabinet. I haven't spent much time with this setup . . . surprisingly, it can get loud.

And, finally, I have a Pandora PX4D that I use with headphones. This is a great solution at home when I have to be absolutely quiet. Also a great tool to use on the road when an amp isn't available (e.g., in a hotel room).

I've been thinking of changing up my practice amp lately. I saw the new Mesa/Boogie Transatlantic and have been trying to find one so I can give it a try.

I will also vouch for the HT-5. It's great for practice, recording and even rehearsing. Sounds great at all volumes... just add delay/reverb and you're set. Two channels to boot and fx loop, can't beat it.

I think I'm +4 or +5 on this amp?

I have the Blackstar HT-5H head with an Orange 1x12 cabinet. I agree add the reverb and delay and its perfect for my needs. Sounds great at low volume, but can get LOUD! Just ask my neighbors!

I'd go for the Roland Microcube or Microcube RX. The Microcube has some great tones for a practice amplifier. The RX has the benefit of 4 tiny speakers (as opposed to the microcubes 1) so you can play tracks through the aux input in stereo, and a standard drum loop system which is quite fun, but the tone does not differ from the two that much though :)

Btw, I forgot to add that this amp respond SUPERBLY to volume changes on the guitar. You can roll back the volume and it cleans up very nicely, compared to other solid state amps which are more one-trick pony.

I am budgeting myself about $1,5oo.oo for a practice amp because I do want something that will work well and enhance the guitars I play

You should've told us before

Egnater Rebel-30
Bogner Alchemist 112
...are actually great amps, but may be too loud.

And of course you may want to consider something made in Germany
Hughes & Kettner Edition Tube or Statesman Dual, depending on which way you want to go...both cool and simple amps :)
