I have a Fender Deluxe Reverb RI at home with a Line 6 M-13 stompbox modeler . . . this is my favorite practice setup. My wife sometimes complains when I crank it up, but I can get great tone even with the amp's volume set at 3 or lower using the M13's effects. I play an EBMM Axis, a variety of Fender Strats and Teles, and a PRS. This setup sounds great with all of them.
At the office, I have a VOX Valvetronix VT30. This is a GREAT little box with a good selection of on-board effects. Play as quietly as you like. And, it has a headphone jack, as well, to practice quietly during lunch. Price at GC is only $239.99. This amp is a TREMENDOUS VALUE. If I had to do it over again, I might have selected a VT50 or VT100 because they allow connection to an external speaker cabinet.
I also have a Blackstar HT-5H head plugged into a Mesa Rectofier 2x12 cabinet. I haven't spent much time with this setup . . . surprisingly, it can get loud.
And, finally, I have a Pandora PX4D that I use with headphones. This is a great solution at home when I have to be absolutely quiet. Also a great tool to use on the road when an amp isn't available (e.g., in a hotel room).
