I recently bought a '78 StingRay, but unfortunately the previous owner removed the frets and sanded down the fretboard to below the fret slot depth. The only option is to install a new fretboard, so I am looking for information about late 70's Music Man rosewood fretboards. They seem to be as rare as hen's teeth on StingRays, though fairly common on Sabres.

To get the new fretboard looking period correct, I need a few pictures of an old rosewood board StingRay or Sabre which show the approximate thickness of the rosewood board, whether the bottom of the board is flat or curved, what the dot markers look like, what colour, size and material the side fret dots are, where the side fret dots are positioned relative to the fretboard/neck join, how the truss-rod bullet is positioned relative to the fretboard/neck join etc...

Any late 70s rosewood fretboard StingRay details would be great, but I think rosewood fretboard Sabre information is probably easier to find.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The rosewood fretboard sizes and construction would be the same between the Ray and Sabre:
-I come up with approx 2mm thickness of the rosewood
-yes the bottom of the board is curved
-side dots are black and are in the maple, just below the seam
-top dots are a faint mother of pearl of sorts, and the same size as dots on a maple fretboard

Hopefully these pics can help out...

Does the fretless fingerboard look similar to the Sabre fretboard shown above?

At one stage I was considering going fretless because I'm doing the work myself, and wanted to keep it simple. Instead I've bought a pre-slotted rosewood fretboard (from an online guitar parts store), which I will modify to look like the Sabre photos.
