pre ernie ball stingrays

Is this a good price for a restored pre-eb? It's so tempting :)

MUSIC MAN 1979 Pre-EB Stingray - "Restored"! - TalkBass Forums

There are 100% original Pre EB Stingrays available for this price (I have bought a couple lately). I guess it depends on what you want, but there are better investments out there. And before anyone slags me for that comment, some of those "investments" play very well, including my mint 78 Natural Ray, which I played this past weekend at a couple of gigs, and preferred it to my 2009 25th BFR with Rosewood neck.

>>>do the older ones weigh more than the newer ones?

Catalogue says 15 lbs which is what my 79 is. A lot weigh less than that.

.

Jeez!! I had a Peavey T-45 with a Darkstar pickup in it. It was pushing 13lbs and felt like an anchor on the strap. I cannot imagine a Stingray weighing that much, let alone a 15 pounder!

Yikes, 15 lbs sounds outrageous! I've never run across one that heavy...12 lbs is the heaviest I've ever picked up, so it's rare that I've experienced.
My '78 is 9.5 lbs, and my '81 is 8.9 lbs

I thought the preamp was boost/cut despite the lack of center detente (and despite what the catalogues said?)

The pre-EBMM preamp is a boost only type with no detents.
At least that's what I was always told.
If you dial out all the bass & treble it sounds very close to a Fndr. P.

Regarding the "restored white one for $2k: It's missing the the mute prongs and the rubber.
And if he gets $2k for that, then I want triple that, for my original unrestored 77 Inca Silver 'Ray.
(no, I'm not selling, just saying).

If you need to have an original, great go for it.
But I would get a new StingRay Classic Deluxe for less money.
The quality of fit/finish/playability/sound is well worth the money.
They combine the best features of both eras.
And they're made in the USA!

I have a 79 Inca silver colour changed 4s bass and I’m thinking of selling it I have no idea what to ask , any help would be appreciated

I have Over 540 Ernie Ball Basses and only 1 at 10.3 pounds, but the sound and Build Quality is 1000 times better then the 40 or so Leo Stingrays basses we're that I owned.
