Welcome to the forum, Nick, and Happy Holidays!
Nickytwister said:Whoa! Stu left about 1999 I think - between the third and fourth albums. Nick Fyffe replaced him for almost five years - covering two albums.
Paul joined this May - they've had a new album out this year and got back from the States/Aus/Japan last week.
Paul really nails the gig.
I'm not a huge fan but I know the guys all quite well.

So, it´s a fact, in general, post EB are best than pre EB MM.

I dont know very well what improvements pre EB have over post EB basses, but it seems newer Stingrays have better specs. like the 6 bolts neck joint, 3 bands eq...

Crazykiwi said:I own a 78 SR4 and I've a friend who plays a 96 SR4 so we've had plenty of opportunity to compare and contrast. His bass is definitely more refined than mine and it sounds fantastically growly and deep. My 78 sounds good but it has more prominent mids and isn't as deep - maybe thats just down to the character of the wood?
However my Cutlass eats both for breakfast - solid sounding, crisp, and loads of deep growl. If EB ever did a SR5 with a graphite neck I'd have a matching fretted and fretless in a heartbeat and never look at another bass again.
