I use both the hybrid and regular slinky's on my basses. They both hold up well for any drop tunings. I use the regulars for standard and occasionally drop D on my 5'er, and my two four strings have hybrids on them. Ones in drop D and the other is drop C, i don't have any issues with either of them.

Yes , I used to run DGCF myself for many years. Many benefits, I could play with guitar players who tune to E-flat hitting the low notes. Also, amazing how many standards are in G,E,A,C so I could use the low-D in many places for more low-end. Drawbacks, need stiffer strings, elastic strings are too wobbly. Also, as I stared to incorporate more slapping into my style I had to get back to EADG tuning as slapping requires more stiffness.

Hybrid Slinkys are always a good option, I've used them consistently for the past 2-3 years and the sound is always consistent and "perfect" for my particular taste. You'll love the sound you get as soon as you string them on the bass, and it just gets better as you break each string in.

If you're interested in a deeper, fatter tone, might I suggest the EB Group III Flatwounds. I've tried 5 or 6 different types of flats over the years and have found some that I've been satisfied with, but since buying the Group III's, I don't think I'll be switching to anything else for a LOOOOOOOONG time. You get such a warm, beefy bass tone, and your fingers roll off the strings like butter. Turn up the treble and you get a nice, sharp edge to accent an already unique tone. I wish I could describe them better, but you really just have to try it to believe it. In fact, I'm getting off the laptop now to go play some more!

Holy Crackhead!!! If you want to control your downtuned strings and keep your tone fat and nasty GET A DIAMOND BASS COMP! This is not an ad. I just got mine and I wonder how I ever played without it. GENIUS in a little yellow box! Seriously, you can really rein in your low strings while, at the same time, let them get every tone out. They are fat and clear but don't lose that low rumble. My strings are months old but they souond new again!
