Does anyone here remember when you could order a Premium flame/quilt top on your Musicman guitar?
I saw this option on a price list way back and just wanted to know if anyone had any information on this option?
Maybe some pics of premium top guitars.:)
Cheers

I'm not sure about this, but maybe they all have premium tops now? The tops on the BFRs just keep getting better and better.

Here's a few pics of guitars that had this premium top option. Those with this option were denoted by a neck plate that said "custom made" on it.
You can't specifically order these upgrades anymore. Though some of the BFR's allow you to choose quilt or flame. Quilt is a larger upcharge.

FWIW - the neckplate is from the Morse.

IIRC when they started making the BFRs they were getting nicer woods all around that transpired down to all the models so the premium top option was dropped, because they are all premium now :D

This was an option for Axis/SuperSports/Y2D's from 2003 to December 14th, 2006. You could choose quilt or flame and there was an upcharge.

Well, the BFRs all get premium tops, with a $250 bump to list for quilt. The original premium top option on y2d, 20th, Axis, etc was $500.

All that being said, every top in the EB woodshop is premium at the moment. When the economy went in the john, EB was wise enough to jump on piles of wood. The quality of the tops on any of their maple topped guitars has simply been through the roof for the past 18 months.

Now is the time to buy one if you want a top with the most extreme figure. Backorders are in August!

So I should be expecting a crazy figured maple neck on the LUKE then eh Pete? hehehe :D

I'm so freakin glad I upgraded the 20th Silo to a premo quilt...now all I have to do is put in a set of chrome covered pups in there again to make it right. Realized that's the way to go after all this time.
