First thing. Im a MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE MASSIVE EVH FAN! HUGE.

TL/DR at the bottom! Good story for guitar buying though :)

So... I had a long week of working, I got home early today, took a nap. Wife woke me up and told me to get out of the house and get some fresh air...

... so I needed picks, so I was like "lets go to guitar center".

I pull up in the parking lot, and this guy is pulling this awesome looking EVH striped hardshell case out of his janky car. I thought "thats AWESOME!". Anyway, I walk inside with this guy, he goes straight to the counter. I walk to the used guitar section and there was this sweet bowling ball strat (rare, exciting!) and I was lookin it over. I notice this guy pull out this music man axis looking guitar (I LOVE axis guitars, I've owned a few of them). I put the strat down and go look at it... its a freakin EBMM EVH MODEL in red quilt!!!

I hear them talking about selling it... and I hear the manager tell him the price he will buy and sell it for... I started SHAKING AND GRINNING.

So... the SECOND this guy leaves I buy it. Its on two week police hold. I will let the pictures do the rest of the story!!! PREPARE TO GET JEALOUS.

There has got to be something up right? Why would someone sell a guitar like that for that low of money to Guitar Center unless they had no idea what it was worth either. Great deal but something just seems wrong.

That's really what I find odd about this. Usually Guitar Center will check ebay or at least other used guitars in their system and they have a few of these at regular value to compare to. On top of that the seller would have to let this go for about $250 and you would think they would know a EVH signature of that quality would be worth more than a Squier. The seller could not possibly have known anything about the guitar or any guitars in general really. Massive score though.

I'm guessing the guy ripped it off from someone and didn't care what he got for it....
But, glad to hear you got a killer deal on it.....

That just doesn't make any sense that GC would sell it at that price. If anything, they usually overvalue their used stuff. Hell, I've sold them guitars for more than I paid for them because they overvalue stuff so much.

What doesn't add up is that the guitar had a striped up case, a 5150 sticker under the bridge and the big metal loops for strap locks. Obviously the owner was a huge EVH fan who modded the guitar to be just like Eddie's. Someone like that you think would be hip to the values of guitars like that. I am not trying to rain on a parade BTW I think it's great that deals can be had out there and am quite jealous.

I've noticed that if you pretty much buy a guitar within minutes of it coming in the door, many music stores will let them go for under market. I bought a tele from a hole-in-the-wall music shop for less than craigslist prices years ago and have another guitar on police hold at a guitar center right now. Best one was a guy pulling a guitar out of the trunk of his car to trade it in and I offered to help move the crap around in his car to get it out. I commented on how nice it was, he threw me a price and I bought it right there.
