I love my Floyds, especially floating. To be honest though I'm very impressed with the JP6 bridge (my latest guitar), it dive bombs and flutters just as well as my Floyds and stays in tune too - in fact it's now probably my favourite bridge. I also built my own axis copy and put a floating OFR in it.

I have an ibanez with floyd locking system, and it does not stay in tune as well as my non-locking JP12… and I steve-vai-divebomb the s**t out of it.

If you had asked me the same question 6 months ago, I would have said Floyd Rose all the way…. but today it seems unnecessary.

I don't like the big fat piece of metal weighting down the headplate, not to mention there is no real adjustment work for the nut done.

I don't mind the bridge itself too much. Of course the whole exercise is pointless if it is dive-only.

Im not a Floyd guy, break a string and its work to change it..lol..I started with axis guitars but moved on to vintage trem MM guitars, I also like to drop D, Im a 90s guy, but with the advent of the dtuna I guess its OK, the Floyd has to be flat on the body though, with locking tuners and a MM trem you good to go if your not doing crazy stuff...

Aesthetically, the EBMM trem is much nicer.

I had an old guitar with a Floyd and didn't like it.

You mean a HSSH Silhouette Special (without the horn contours and with a maple top and transparent pickguard)? Ye, that would be lovely.

I like Floyds, but the dive-only setup is very useless imo. It takes all the expressiveness out of the bar and restricts you down to dive-bombs and stuff like that. I know a lot of players dig that feel, changing strings is quicker, the tuning stability is a bit better (although this one is questionable), but it's definitely not for me. If I had an Axis, I would setup the trem so it can be raised at least up to a semitone on the G string.

Having said that, I prefer MM trems over Floyds. Other than having a "bigger range", Floyds feel, sound and look inferior to the MM trems.

Yeah - wanna keep the binding, so a small contour like the 25th!! The single pickup mounted beside the bridge humbucker is killer - offers some very unique tones!!!!

The standard MM trem is really outstanding! Floyd also is wonderful, but only if it is the real deal (e.g., not so fond of the FR Special). And for the added hassle, I prefer that it goes both down and up.
