Technically speaking a guitar doesn't "come with" a case. They are two seperate unconnected items. I've bought many guitars with and without cases. Always double check with the dealer to be sure the case is included or is it extra, and then ask "what case"? You'll avoid any conflict at the register.

Most definitely not so. No matter what brand we talk about the instruments are intended to be sold as they were received by the store from their distributor. If an instrument arrived in a case, it is intended to be sold with that case. In Europe, I'm pretty sure it's illegal for stores to display separate prices or attempt to sell them separately if the manufacturer or authorised distributor did not intend so. It's would also be illegal to tell customers that they are separate unconnected items.

Of course, that does not forbid the store and customer coming to whatever argeement they like, provided the store does not misrepresent the sale of both items separately as normal.

Having worked in a store that sold Music Man instruments I was told (in response to a customers inquiry) that there are only two ways a store can receive a Music Man hard case - 1) as a replacement under warranty or 2) with an instrument inside to be sold with it.

Customers have the right to demand a Music Man hardshell case with their Music Man instruments. If the case is not sold with the instrument the price must be adjusted accordingly.

Yep. Same in Europe. The question has been asked before. Guitars ship from the factory in a hard case and it's included in the recommended selling price. Can anyone tell me if Sub1s came with a case or a gig bag?

Forgot about those! The SUB series did not come with cases or gig bags, they were shipped in boxes lined with form-fit foam. IIRC it was the same for the Benji, although the case was optional with that guitar.

With such a high recommended price, if a store tries to sell an instrument without the case, a customer could ask for a large reduction that the store would probably not like! If that is the specific intention or not, I don't know.

I'm not talking about list price or any price for that matter, the fact is without a doubt you can buy "any" guitar without the case!!

Unlike other products, e.g., a new car that must come with tires, etc. . . it is not mandatory that a case be included in the sale of the guitar (*see GC or any dealer). Therefore, you'll always (at least to some extent) get a lower price on a guitar without the case!!
