I have got an EBMM Petrucci guitar, and when I play on the higher strings it makes this gargling sound. The actual tone gets lost in the gargling! I have tried other guitars and I don't have the same problem with them... The gargling accures when I do a series of hammer-ons and pull-offs on the high E-string, or when I slide from one tone to another on the higher strings(not using my pick) Does anybody know how I can solve this problem  ?

Kind of a bizarre symptom! The only thing I can think of is that the pickups are too close to the strings, so the pups' magnetic field is interfering with the movement of the string, causing it to warble... You might try raising the strings or lowering the pickup (ime, usually it's the neck pickup that causes this kind of behaviour) and see if it stops...

either that or dude is pulling off on the strings way too hard and is getting the bridge to cause the warbling, kinda like when you smack the bar to get that effect (I loves dat!).

The pickup on a JP is hard mounted to the body...Can't lower it unless you route out the cavity

This might sound kinda silly, but how old/used are the strings and the guitar itself?

When a certain PurpleKid had a similar series of unexpected overtones come off his home-made superstrat many, many moons ago, he took it to his tech and was advised that he didn't need a fretjob...he just needed to start changing strings more often thanks to the crud that would accumulate on them from the Florida heat/humidity! And of course, that solved the problem straight away.... :o

That said, maybe you do the very rare instance of having a fret coming loose or not filed down properly, or perhaps your neck is settling in and you're already in need of an action job or truss rod tweak. Obviously, a good tech is the best one to tell you this if you're uncomfortable adjusting your guitar in any way other than string changes.

Also, is there a faint smell of Listerine when this happens? But seriously...If it is something you need help with, call me at 1 866 823-2255 ext.237
