So last night I took back a guitar I bought in December to my local Guitar Center. I was looking around to see if I could find something that better fit my playing/sound and noticed they had their Ernie Ball guitars on sale. They've had this grey base model there for about a year, and I've played it many times, so I bought it at a good clearance price:

But when I got it home late last night I felt a ridge in the middle of the neck running from the 12th to 7th frets. In the picture below you can see it. The two straight "lines" are actually the outer edges of it. The middle is raised and is only visible because it is cleaner.

I had a Pearl Red JP back when they first came out, but I don't remember it having a ridge in the back of the neck...

Hi there and welcome to the forum!

You have two options immediately. You are under warranty if the guitar is new so you can either take it back to GC and have them deal with it or call Customer Service and get their advice first.

Went back to GC and they agreed it was definitely NOT normal. They were on clearance and would have to contact EBMM to see if they could order another. I started playing a L3 while they were searching for a replacement and they asked if I would want that for the same price. I played it for about 30 minutes and decided I would. This thing is awesome!

Thanks guys. To be honest, I prefer the looks of the JP....
It is black with the baked maple neck. I will upload some pictures in a few minutes.

Nice. The luke III is my fav guitar ever!!!!

Little update. After a few days of trying it out I realized the reason I liked the Luke....because it had an almost identical sound as my Warmoth/Charvel parts guitar. I went back to GC to see if they still had the "El Dorado Gold" loaded JP6 but it had sold. I was able to find (thanks to a GC employee sending me that searchable clearance list) a Lake Tahoe Blue loaded JP6 in New York and traded out with them. I don't have it in my hands yet, but I will post pics when it arrives.
