A=440 regardless of tuning. When you tune lower A is just gonnna be in a different spot on the fret board. 440 vibrations per second is percieved as A lol.
Last time I took my guitar to the shop someone there said do you tune to 440? And I thought,hmmmmm I'm not sure this guy should be working on my guitar! LOL
I like tuning to C because the lower chords sound great and i think the guitar actually sounds better and meaner. I wish everyone tuned to C! :p
It just sounds alot better and those lower notes sound tough on guitar with the distortion maxxed out!!!!!!!!!!!!
I dont think it should matter what you tune to if you like it and can put a good beat to it and someone goes YEAH!!!!!!!, thats all that matters. :)

Your right sr5cam the terminology is being used wrong.
a=440 thats what makes it the note a
and transposing is playing a peice of music in a different key than say it was written in originally perhaps.
