Problem with OLP/Petrucci locking mechanics

Got this Problem:
My high-E string twitched and now I got to change it myself for the first time.
The problem is that the mechanics "snap back" after 1-1.5 turns caused by the pull of the strings. The mecanics are about half-way out of the winding (acctually you can see half of the hole for the string). I'm a bit frightened of damaging the mechanics when using more force/a gripper for this.
Somebody got an idea what I'm doing wrong?

I am not familiar with OLP hardware, and not too many folks here own those guitars. (They are not made by EB/MM) Someone may own one and offer some advice, so keep checking, but keep in mind that there aren't too many owners here on the forum.

To me, it sounds like you have a bad tuner that needs to be replaced.

If I had more money I would be playing a Axis SS by now
Anyways, the difference between a Schaller and this custom-OLP-tuner should not be that big.
Just to make sure if I'm doing the process of locking the stings itself right, here is what I did:
1. Pulled the string through the tremolo-system.
2. Opened the mechanic itself about half way (as said above)
3. Pulled the string straight through it
4. Tried to lock it counter clockwise (didn't twist the string around the locking nut or something..dunno if this was/is right)

I have never seen the tuners on the OLP Petrucci, but it sounds like you are doing it right
