I have problems with two different 6166 volume pedals. One of them has a scratchy pot. I guess I have to clean the pot, or replace it on that one.

The other doesn't reach full volume on the toe down position. I tried to move the pot so that it is silent in heel down position. Formerly the signal wasn't completely off in the heel down position. I get a readout on about 100 K ohms on the tip from input to output in toe down postion, and 229 K ohms in heel down position. (By the way the other pedal goes from 0 to 236 K ohms or something nearby).

I can't figure out what's wrong with this one. Any suggestions?

Sometimes you can work out the scratchiness by rockin the pedal back and forth ... but it sounds to me like it needs to be replaced.

Were these pedals purchased at the same time? Or did you get them at different time periods?

Thanks for your reply. No, the pedals weren't bought at the same time. The one with the scratchy pot were bought new around year 2000. I have tried to rock it back and forth. I got the other one with a Ernie Ball pedal steel guitar I bought. I think that one is older. It has white text on the front (the other has green text).

Well, you might have gotten two of the same pedals .. but with different pots. All of our pedals now have Tocos pots in them. But, you might have a slightly older pedal .. this would definitely make your volume reading different. I would say go ahead and replace the pot in each.

I bought two new pots, and two new spring kits. The pedal with the scratchy pot now works great, but the other pedal is acting the same way it did before. I'm suspecting that it is a mechanical problem, although I cannot figure out what's wrong.

I fixed the problem with my pedal. It was the "anchor" for the teflon wire in the front that was rotated 180 degrees. Hope this helps.
