Problems with my new sterling

I bought a brand new sterling in december and i have just started to encounter some problems. i'm not sure if it is issues with the pick up or something i have no clue. At first when i played it it would be all distorted and sound terrible. then i made an adjustment to the pickup thinking that it may have just been too close to the strings. the adustment made the distortion go away but now the volume of the bass has been cut temendously where i have to crank a decent sized amp to hear it at a fairly low volume. i'm kind of freakin out about this cuz i just bought it so any help would be appreciated.

im sure a bunch of folks will pop in with some help ... but first off: you try changing the battery yet? that would be the first thing i'd do.

could be as easy as that.

good luck

thanks man worked like a charm it was jus tthe battery.

rock n roll ... i dunno if you've had experience with active electronics or not (dont mean to be insulting if you have) but the battery juice gets drained whenever you've got your bass plugged in ... so if you're not playing then take the intrument cable out of the bass. batteries should have a pretty good life and you now know how they "tell you" that they're dying.

enjoy the sterling. they frickin rule

Another problem solved.

Someone should be keeping track of these things.

im actually stoked about this thread cuz its the first problem ive solved :)

not a bad idea to keep track. someone should hack the forums' code so the mods can "promote" threads to a "problems" solved section ... kinda like an FAQ on steroids. should be too hard actually

The first time I had a battery go down I had that same feeling of dread and that something was seriously wrong . I was thinking the pre-amp was cooked or something in there was fried.

:)

What a wonderfull feeling when you discover it's just the battery.

I'm sure at one point we have all been just as confused, then just as relieved to find...

It's just the battery! ;)

how long can you leave the battery in before it leaks? should one take it out when storing the bass for long periods?

I'd say if you're not planning to play it for more than a cuppla months, take it out.

I don't think modern batteries are as prone to leaking as their ancestors, but, better safe than sorry.

i also use Duracell - they seem to complement the bass the best from what i've tryed.
