I can't listen to Abba..Can't imagine playing it

:D haha! I very rarely hear any ABBA in my daily adventures, but on the rare occasion when I do, it doesn't make me bleed. Must be the Swedish blood in me. :p

I gotta tell ya...you don't know how challenging that ABBA stuff is untill you have to play some of it.Try playing the exact bass line to "dancing queen" some day...but it's some seriously difficult stuff to really nail .

+ 1 (Gimme, gimme, gimme...that's very tricky too).

defending abba

I make mad cash playing ABBA's music.I got a bunch of flak from my musician buddys about being in a tribute band dedicated to ABBA of all bands.I told them...it's just a cover band...I play interesting music...i never have to deal with smoky bars or drunks...I get fed for free...and most nights I'm back in the hotel room by 11pm watching cable porn...and...i get paid pretty well.
I started to research the music side of it and really got into it.That Gunther Sorenson is a bad muthathumper...funky as hell when he needs to be.The rythym section stuff is crazy on all the tunes...even the lame ones!I have spent a bit of time doing studio work ,so I'm used to playing on tunes I'm not terribly fond of."Voule Vous" for instance.I don't think anyone in the band likes playing that tune...but it's a challanging enough tune that it holds my interest(thats not true ,the guitarists love that tune...unison lead lick).

Why aren't you wearing that outfit in your avatar? :D

ABBA ain't my thing, but I can appreciate them for what they were. I also respect the fact that they continually turn down a BILLION dollars to get back together for a reunion tour. I think one of them even said, "You really don't want to see me in spandex--it'd ruin it for you." :)

For a steady paycheck making music I'd certainly do it for a while. Like you said--a lot of those songs are surprisingly note-y and funky on bass. I guess enough cocaine and shiny disco balls will make one not notice, though....

the good thing about the bongo

thats the main reason I got a weird looking bass like the Bongo....I want people to say "dig that crazy lookin' bass"...not..."hey, there is a huge gay salsa musician on stage...lets kill him and take his guitar"

For some strange reason, although I am not a big ABBA fan, I find that statement the best thing ever. Stick to your guns. And if the Bongo can do that then it can do anything. Now I am gassing for a Bongo and as soon as I get the funds I am going to call mr bassplyr.

It does take all kinds of music to make this world go around. Maybe only a Bongo or a SR5 to make the bass sound right. IMHO

Ha does any rappers have a Bongo playing along? If so it gots it all covered.

True that! I turn on some Coolio, LL Cool J, Sugar Hill Gang, Ahmad, OutKast, etc. and can pull off a fat, nasty bass tone with the Bongo!
