Hi,
It's not that i have tuning problems with my MM's but i just wondered what would be the correct way to put on new strings, you know to take full advantage out of the Schallers. (i hope this doesn't sound stupid, having high quality guitars without knowing how to properly put on strings:( )

Do i just put the string in the hole and 'lock' the tuner and tune up, or should i make some windings after locking it? Any difference between high and low strings? I'm wondering how you guys go with this.

They're great for changing strings very fast, but should they also add to the tuning stability?
for example, i have a Telecaster that doesn't stay in tune very well, would it be a wise thing to install a set of Schallers?

thanks,
Michell

Just put the string in the hole, pull out the slack, lock 'er down, trim the excess and tune 'er up. Make it simple as possible. Mine usually go out of tune when it's time to change strings. Just kidding.

I don't know if this is the "proper" way to do it, but this is how my tech put on my strings after installing the locking tuners on my Sil Spec (replacing the previous Grovers). As you can see, 1/2 turn should do the trick.

I have no tuning issues at all, locked and loaded baby! :)

The Pearl RedBurst I picked up had a retard string it. Dude wrapped the strings and then clamped the string down. I had to fix that first thing. I hate dealers that get paid to set these things up right, and then don't get it right. The same guy used furn wax or finish polish on the back of the neck and it made it sticky (formby's lemon oil worked wonders on this...).

It's scary how many guitars you'll find hanging on store walls that look and feel like they've been strung and set up by a drummer... I don't know how they expect to sell them like that.

I do love the simplicity of locking tuners, though... :D

I haven't been without a locking tuner in like 5 or 6 years at least, they're great! What's funny is the PRB was on the guitar locator on the website, and it was actually in the store. I musta hit dude on the right day because, he wanted upwards of $1350...and Left with it a hair under 12....then again I also knew what I was dealing with and realized that all it'd take was a bit o' tlc.

Hey JimiD....I am an ex-drummer.....easy now.;)
I too hate having to tell a "guitar tech" how to string one up. I rub in the drummer thing when I do teach 'em though...hehehehe

i just line up the holes with the string slots, put the string through, pull the string tight ( picking the guitar up slightly to put the weight into it) then lock it down while its taught. Then tune, cut excess and retune... prolly should just cut excess and tune but whatever... i take a little longer but it doesnt bother me.

once the strings are stretched good, they stay in tune pretty good.

God bless,

Tony
