Well, in case you missed it, there was some ugliness on here a couple weeks ago and it was my fault. I want to take this time to publicly apologize to all/any that I offended or ticked off. Bovinehost and Sterling, in particular deserve a heartfelt and sincere, "I'm sorry I was a horses-arse!"

I am not condoning or making excuses for my behavior, but before you judge me, let me give a little insight as to what was driving my behavior.

I am 39, I own/operate a Physical Therapy private practice with my wife. Our small community has had 3 orthopedic surgeons that refer heavily to us. 2 of the three, one being our largest referral source, are leaving the community. This is very detrimental to our community as a whole and to my business. Stresser #1.

My wife and I took in a nephew who is 21 and not making the best choices in his life. Trying to raise my own kids 6,8,11 years old is hard enough, raising a 21 year old, not any easier. Stresser #2.

Now, the biggy. I was told by my family Dr. that a "lump" I was feeling in my throat that was effecting my singing was likely the "Big C". I was freaking out, but trying not to let it effect my family, my work, my community involvement. I was pretty consumed with it and I was stressed to the hilt! That's about when I bought a new bass rig (my wife's idea, she said, "you deserve it".) When I couldn't get it to sound good it just ate me up.
Stresser #3+4.

I was so edgy that a "ratfart" would have launched me through my ceiling at the time. I had a CT scan, scopes to my throat and vocal cords, visit with ENT's, etc since my last post here and I can say that my stress is SIGNIFICANTLY reduced. I do not have throat or any other type of cancer. My problem is improving and will go away with medication or surgery and not come back, time will tell.

As for my Bass situation. My new GK Neo 410 cabinet must have been abused at the Guitar Center before purchase, it never did sound good at higher volumes (which I couldn't really test in the store). I took it back and was told that the horm was shot and one of the 4 10" speakers was "bad", so I went to another store and bought an Eden 410 XLT and my tone is terrific at any volume. I have great sound whether I'm running my bass "dimed", "hendrixed" or flat. Very punchy and the MM sound I have always dreamed of.

As for the guitar center in our area, I won't go back, I've had nothing but trouble with them. I swear you could go in with a screw driver and a soldering iron and they'd let you "tinker" just to see what the guts of an amp or guitar looked like.

So, in closing, I apologize sincerely and I promise to play nice from now on. I will admit that I'm glad a blew up here vs. at home, little league practice, work, etc.!!

John, in my opinion, the apology was the only thing necessary. That being said, I am glad things are starting to look up for you. I feel like I have been dealt a pretty rotten hand lately myself, and I know it's hard to keep it together sometimes. Take care.

Very glad to hear that your health is good, John - that's the main thing. And sorry about the stress....can't imagine what it would be like to take in an older "child" who has been headed down the wrong path.

And, way down the list, I'm also glad that you got your rig/bass working together properly.

Thanks for coming back. All water under the bridge.

Let's have some fun, someone once said to me.

And Eric, I'm in town for awhile. Give me a holler if there is anything I can help you out with...

Nice post, John.

Attitude is everything and you're sounding very positive now.

On the lighter side, you've initiated a quote from Big Poppa which could end up being a line in some knuckleheads next song:

...I m walking with a cane and wearing depends!

Welcome Back!

John,
it's mighty bold of you to publicly apologize. Kudos.

I think you will now find the forum as a "Happy Escape" from life's little bumps in the road.

John,

Glad to hear that the lump turned out to be non-cancerous. I can imagine how worried you and your wife must have been. There's a saying here on the forum that I think is really fitting for you now: play that SR5 in good health, friend.

One good turn deserves another, and to be honest with you, I have to apologize too, to you. I called you a moron in the aftermath of the previous thread, because I couldn't understand exactly why you got so "bent out of shape" with everyone. So, I'm sorry for that. This is a good reminder for me to keep that judgement in check. So often you have no visibility into what's going on "behind the scenes" with someone - into the circumstances that can sometimes compel people to act in ways that aren't "typical" for them. And we all do it!

Welcome back & see ya around.

So glad to hear everything is fine with you. Your health and loved ones....it's all that matters. I'm sorry to hear about your business situation, lots of that going around lately with this crazy economy.

....so I went to another store and bought an Eden 410 XLT and my tone is terrific at any volume.

Super smart move. If you feel inclined, the Eden forums are very informative - lots of Eden tone freaks over there.

Welcome back and let's move forward! :)

I wish you the best with your family. You are very kind to take care of your nephew. He will appreciate, if not now then later.

John, I won't hijack this thread and tell you of my similar experience 10 yrs. ago.....but man, I feel for you! I hope things get better for you. Take some time off and go see a Cards game:D If you're ever up north (Iowa City) drop me a note, and we'll catch a gig at the Mill.
