Well BP, I did my share today to help out the bottom line. :D

I placed my order for a Blue Dawn Sterling HS with maple board and a 20th Anniv. single H /maple board w/ matching headstock today from J.D. at Corner Music in Nashville.

Funny thing J.D. mentioned when he got of the phone that whomever he talked to said they should both be in by May. This would be great, but I was shocked by the short length of time.

Now the wait begins.

Kirby, you're a sick man. I was checking out your sig, and you're my kind of guy.

I think it's an American thing.

I explain it this way: "If some is good, more is more gooder."

and you call yourself a Sterling fan...

The Onyx Sterling: Black Finish, Black Hardware, Ebony Board...etc

Found this little bit from Harmony Central:

October 15, 2002

For bass players looking for collectibles, Ernie Ball offers the one-of-a-kind Onyx Black Sterling Bass as part of its "Custom-Made program." The bass will be built with an Ernie Ball Music Man Custom Made logo neck plate, a hand numbered body and a certificate to ensure the piece's authenticity.

The first short run model in Ernie Ball's Custom Made program, the company will make only 150 Onyx Black Sterlings to guarantee its collectability. It will retail for $2,525.

Mingus,

Bingo, that is it. Mine came from Corner Music in Nashville and it has one of the best necks I have ever played on it. It is my favorite Sterling, but I am interested to see how the DD will stack up against it.

The back of the neck neck is finished in black paint on the Onyx and the board is ebony which makes it different than the other Sterlings available. All hardware is a black chrome color.

Thanks Jack for the complement. I am awaiting the next open house in SLO, hopefully we can meet then. I am relatively new to the forum, but not to EB basses.

Cheers!

He neglected to tell you that it's May, 2008. :p

Seriously, I'm assuming the BDs will take as long as the Dargies, if for no other reason than the longer and more labor-intensive finishing process. Dargies are starting to show up now, and the order window was last July.

I'm assuming August-September for my LE.

If it's really true that they'll be ready in May, then I'll have a nice anniversary present!

I almost bought and ONYX Sterling and thought about it twice, they are very sleek...a guitar dealer over by where I live always gets the rare and/or special edition EBMM basses and guitars brand new and keeps at least one in stock, i can't say how many hours I've spent on these instruments without owning one...then again I almost bought the NAMM 100th edition from this dealer too...and a 30th aniversary...my wallet told me not to:(

I do regret not buying that NAMM edition now

Yeah, those 100th Anniv. NAMM basses are sweet, I too am regretting not grabbing one of those. Someday I will find the right one and it won't get away this next time! :D

I think that if I ever see an Onyx come up for sale over this way, I'll have to snag it. It's like Stealth, only better!!! :D Shame they're so rare - tho of course thats the point :)

Oooh Komp :D Heehee

I've seen that one on the Bay before - it's been on there for ages - price is a bit high methinks. If they knocked a couple of hundred off it, I'd be tempted. But just a tad too high for us at the mo :)

BTW, watched Ice Age 2 at the weekend - so your avatar finally makes sense :) I swear Scrat is the best thing about both those films :D
