I think you can get any tone with a Bongo. I picked one up recently and was amazed by the versatile EQ. So yeah, get a Bongo and be the first bassist in a punk band with a Bongo! Mwahaha.
i dont think that a precision bass is the perfect punk bass, though it does sound good. i think a jazz bass is also good for punk, but that is just me. that is why i think that a musicman would be the best because it has multiple tones that are great for just about anything.
Well my Ibanez has a great tone for punk .. but I gotta say my Sterling is great ... I get sounds with that basses... I'm just simply drooling when I'm playin' with it !
I mostly play Punk-ska tho ... LEss Than Jake mostly ..and Roger uses a Sterling and he had a Ibanez SoundGear ( well I sorta am ltj freak and got the same models )
the P. Bass is okay I guess , amazing sound I can say ..but I don't trust much those lil pick ups , dunno why ..and I hate not having more control of the sound config .. just a Tone and a volume... okai with a EQ pedal it's cool ...i guess ...but I love having an EQ in my bass , and setting my own sounding and give it some plus with my Amp,s EQ .
Well I would say .. maybe bacause I'm not a long time bassist , but I love bass more than anything ...
It's not the bass that will make you a punk , but you will make it punkish .. it depends of if you use a pick , finger.. the Amp Settings ..the punk sounding you are looking for .. a deep not really audible background bass sounding or a punchy snappy like a Stingray with a mapple neck ... My Sterling is rockin' ! and my ibanez was too ! ( still is tho I don't use it much since I got my Sterling ) try hem .. pick the one you fall in love with !
