I'm assuming that you are referring to the shape of the pickup cover. The newer single-H SR5s come with the newer-style pickup cover.

did the change in shape on single H rays occur in conjunction with the return to Alnicos in the SR5 models?

My SR5 is a 2007 model and to my knowledge has a Ceramic pup. As far as I know, the Alnico change took place on the 2008 models.

does anyone know is a sterling's pickup cover glued?

They're not really "glued" per se. There is a bead of silicone down each side that can be easily separated with an Exacto knife. After scoring the silicone, loosen the 4 most center screws on the back of the pickup and the cover should come right off.
