My friend tried a set of EMGs in his Jp6, (81 and 89 coil split). He wasn't satisfied because Jp is custom guitar and pickups are too, as well as holes drilled for them, so he couldn't adjust height of pups, bridge was ok but neck was so close to the strings it choke them on high frets. Good thing about EMGs is that they have small amount of magnetic pool so they sound best close to the strings, but you would have to dig deeper hole to fit them. Soundwise it was ok, but I dont really like sound of a active pup. At the end he ditched them:cool: , so 2+2...

i was thinking about changing it to a Tonezone (this is the pup i use on most guitars), but then i saw JP live with a D-Sonic and i new what i had to do...

jup, now i´m using a Dsonic as bridge pup and it is a difference like day and night.
much more midds and more output which means the amp produces more gain.
and it even sounds very well in splitposition.

On one of my JP's, I put a Dimebucker at the bridge and a DH-58 at the neck. It certainly growls for me....I like it.

OC has done some Pup changes on one of his......and it is killer. I forgot what he put in though.....hopefully he will chime in and re-fresh the old noggin....heheheh....

Beej is a big fan of Bill Lawrence pups.....

I left my other two JP's alone. I like them just the way they are. My one with the pup change is mainly for a more aggressive metal sound, which I got. Works for me.

I am indeed! FYI, the Dimebucker is apparently a copy of the Lawrence L-500-XL which is the pickup Dimebag originally used. So that probably makes you a fan too ;)

shreder75 has put evolution in the bridge, I was listening to his soundclips before and after the change, and Evo wasn't that great, it was a little brighter than stock but it had less "chunk", stock pup was so meaty!! I love that

Though I'm generally a "swap out the pickups" kind of guy, I have to say that overall the stock p'ups in all the EBMM models I've played are pretty great. I haven't bought one yet and thought they needed a change! That's another nod to EBMM for great component selection.

I think Orangechannel put a DiMarzio Tone Zone in the bridge and an Air Norton in the neck of one of his JPs.

I first tried 'em because I liked Nuno Bettencourt's sound (he used a 500-L). When I put the XL in one of my guitars, WHOA! I loved the output and power of that pickup, and it's really even- lots of lows, mids and highs. Plus, it cleans up really nice too.

I dont have a JP, but I put the pair of DiMarzio BREEDs into my Silo. I REALLY love the sound of them, and it is a very versetile combination. The neck Breed is very clear and has a lot of gain, but still cleans up pretty nicely, and the bridge Breed has some very nice chunk to it. My friend disribed it as a George Lynch type of sound. I also have an Air Norton in my Ibnz, which is an AWESOME neck pup, and the Steve's Special. That's what JP used to use in his Ibnz guitars, so I guess the sound should be kind of close to the ones in the EBMM JP model? Dont know, but they are ALL nice pups.
