I bought a purple Majesty from Guitar Center yesterday. It was a floor model and I am sure has had a fair share of people before me messing with it. I cannot keep this thing in tune at all. I heard that I should try that Dr Bends nut sauce? Maybe I should take it in for a complete setup? It is a killing feeling knowing that I paid three grand on a guitar that will not stay in tune. Does anybody have any advice or has had the same problems? If so how did you resolve this? I definitely love this thing and want to get this fixed.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on a great guitar!

First just try rubbing a soft dark pencil into the nut slots (just loosen each string and pull out of the way). If friction in the nut slots in the problem (and it usually is) you'll notice an immediate improvement. Lots of choices for lube, you donlt need to buy a special product (though there is nothing wrong with Big Bends sauce). See here for details...

Lube the nut slots as well as the saddles (not too much as it could mess up the piezo system) and also the two posts where the bridge contacts them and pivots. Big Bends Nut Sauce is legit.

Since it was a floor model and had some play, I'd start with a fresh new set of strings, and lube as the others have said and see as if that helps. For now, I'd stick with the same gauge/set that is the factory uses.

When adjusted properly these guitars hold tuning very well.

I got some white lithium grease and some graphite lubricant so we'll see how this works. Thanks!

Making sure the strings are new is always step one with solving tuning issues.

I agree with BrickGlass. Old strings do weird stuff.
I recently bought a used guitar with a Floyd and when it arrived the high E was making a terrible pinging sound and slipping out of tune. I thought either the Floyd nut would need shimming or there were some high frets. After I installed new strings, the problem went away.

I used the lithium grease and applied that to the nut slots, the bridge saddle where the string rests and the contact points of the springs on the back of the guitar. I changed the strings and its definitely a big difference. The whammy still seems to knock it out of tune pretty good though.

Try tightening the small screws on top of the tuning keys. If these are loose, then the locking tuners can slip a little when the tension changes from using the whammy. The keys will be more difficult to turn, but they'll always hold tuning.

Since you bought it a GC take it back and request a new in the box guitar. I have done this a few times and have always received a brand new never touched guitar. If they do not want to do that then return it.

I don't understand... these guitars, like all ENMMs, are designed and made very well. Why would that this guitar was played in the store cause it to not stay in tune? Hmmmmmm

Seriously?? Geez even the top made best quality guitars can have issues after much abuse in a store, especially at a GC. And whats an ENMM?

I have played a 10,000.00 PRS that was not setup and abused at a GC sounded like chit! Dude needs to return it for new in the box fresh from the distribution center.
