But I'm not sure how good these p'ups are on their own. Most pickups don't really sound great when split and they'll pick up hum.

That's exactly why I was not keen on replacing too many parts (the push/pull pot is a given). If they are noisy as all get out i most likely wouldn't be real fond of the setup. Let me know if you find a way to wire it up with the stock switch and have sound in the middle position as well!

I wouldn't be too worried about replacing switches, pots, etc. It's easy enough to wire them back later and they're not visible.

As for noise- if you split them they'll effectively be single coils. So the noise will be like any other single coil noise. With a clean sound, not so bad. With medium to heavy gain, they'll be very noisy.

It'd be a little tricky as using the standard approach of grounding each coil might give you no sound in the middle position, but there are a few options there.

Do you think it's possible to split like this without some sort of relay?

And funny thing is, neither me or musicman jp6 has done the mod :D
but I change idea every day, so one day I might just open a post to tell you I've done the mod ;)
