Put some EB Cobalt Flats on my Cutlass last night

I've been wanting to put some flats on the bongo. Will give these a try.

I have five or six Bongos and all are strung with flats. I can tell you this: it's a tone you will not get any other way.

I'm slowly replacing all my flats with the Cobalt flats, which can do a bit more in the zing department than my old faves, but even though I'm old, I'm capable of liking new things.

Usually.

I had the Cobalts on my last Cutlass (and my Fodera). I've switched to TI's. They just sound a little bit more round/full to me. This new addition is the best one I've owned so far, and I think it looks keen as all get out.

in case one is partial to flats. here's a quick and dirty list

EBMM Cobalts - big sound, perfect tension, sound closer to rounds but easier on the fingees
EBMM Group IIs or IIIs (still out there) - more traditional flat, see Labellas, good value
TIs - boutique flats, spendy, very low tension, super comfy, good tone
Chromes - high tension, not for me
Labella Deep Talkin - traditional flat, easiest route to the Motown Jamerson sound
Labella Flexible Flats - feel like TIs for less $
Sadowsky Blue Labels - higher output, much like the Cobalts, and perfect tension (for moi)
Fender Flats - a good value flat
DR Legends - much like Labellas, don't come in "light" gauge (that I recall). thumpy
GHS Precision Flats - too thumpy, compressed, for my liking

as always, YMMV
