Ever since i bought my first EBMM a few years ago, a beaten up sterling, i feel like i came home. That little bass (it is quite small for a bass) just feels perfect, it's light, comfortable and has a great tone.

I remember the day i realised my Sterling bass was the same "Sterling" as the one that decided he wouldn't be bullied by Microsoft all those years ago. For this geek, which was building a linux infrastructure during the same period when Sterling was making headlines with his fight with MS, it was quite cool to see i was loving an instrument concieved by the same artist. Quite inspiring in fact since music and computers have been my main interests forever and seing the two collide this way was quite cool.

fast forward now. Still love that sterling bass. I'm never letting it go, i played too many important (to me) concerts with it.

Now the SR5 is another story, i love the tone it provides, but i can't get comfortable with it. I don't know why, i can't really blame the bass for anything, it's absolutely gorgeous and sounds amazing (the most amazing tone from any of the basses i've owned), but i'm not making a connection with it. I'm selling it as i have a personal rule, to keep only 2 basses that i play with (i think i'm gonna be able to enforce that rule forever but it works for now ;)

The past few days i've been reading about the 1953 fetish and the BFR indian rosewood special. it made me think a lot. I remember telling myself that i would try my best to get a bongo that didn't have a matching headstock as i remember seing one online that looked amazing. The first and only time i tried a bongo i really liked it. Bongos are getting harder to find around here too.

I couln't never make up my mind about a color i would like, there are so many funky (in a good way) colors to choose from that i couldn't decide. Then it hit me, the bongo doesn't need an extravagant color, the instrument by itself makes a statement.So....

So i'm jumping in, based on his word and all your comments, i just ordered a "BP special" black bongo 4, single H, tort pickgard and BFR rosewood neck. It's time to get in the 2000's and this is the bass to jump in with.

This is the first bass i've ever ordered to built. I'm quite excited to know that it will be built for me. I'm also quite excited about my personnal journey to get to this purchase. Inspiration means everything to me when i want to make music.

Exciting times are near bro! Congrats on the order...the "Big Poppa Special" is the best bongo in the world. Mine is lethal and I love it. Can't wait to see it with the rosewood neck.

Man, that is downright heartwarming.

Really.

Having played a Bongo nearly identical to the one you ordered, I can tell you it's a killer.

Way to go!

i actually can't wait to hear it, the bongo i tested was a HS or HH. I never heard a single H before. but based on your descriptions of its tone, i can't wait to hear the mightiest of the mighty bongos!

Excellent choice! I'm trying to figure which bass to order with the rosewood neck option myself, I have to have one! I may very well go for a single H Bongo 4 banger too but in one of them there fancy new colors. But a TobaccoBurst Sterling sure would be purdy!

A tobacco burst sterling would have been my 2nd choice, i tried a ST5 a few months ago and i really REALLY liked it. tobacco with that rosewood would be awesome too.

Great bass choice!!!!! I had a chance to thump on the "BP Special" and it was great!!!! Liked the neck sooo much I ordered one too (black isn't obnoxious enough for me though - but it is a stunning bass). Can't wait til it arrives and you throw some picts up!

a sterling in the new red w/ a vintage pearl pg and RW neck would look pretty hot

Very nice post Fidooda. I have been aginizing between a new Ray or Bongo for a few weeks now and you are helping me lean closer and closer towards the Bongo. As a lefty I have no way to try a Bongo around these parts. The new colors are so tempting. I'm glad to see you took the plunge. i will be doing the same as soon as I can make a decision!
