Thanks a lot for another great tale on the history of basses... like others, I'd love to read a book written by Sterling on the Ball adventure!

the reason i love this place is that we get to learn about and appreciate the stories behind each of the basses from BP's own experiences.
great read BP

Thanks BP for the great story. I love learning the history of these basses that I own. It makes them each a little more special. Not to mention, that I am just a history buff anyway. Thanks again, always love the stories!

words from the source

:)BP, Thanx so much for your reply and especially for wrapping it in the contexts as you have, and it all has great significance for me especially to help me fill in the "space between the bricks of my own quest to hold and play a fine electric bass guitar ... I was a kid growing up in central Ontario and my Dad operated a small radio and electronics repair shop so I was surrounded with AM radio and took quite easily to the sounds of the electic guitar than eventually filled the area around the workbench and spilled over into the kitchen and living room ... eventually it was "The Swampmen" who brought those sounds from California to the stage in the local high school gym and from there, I was hooked on a "P" bass and began picking my own bass lines on a 6 string electric from Sears until decades later when fate brought me my own first solid body electric bass, so, BP, reading your reflections here for me is something like following a beam of light back to the sun and feeling the warmth and continuity of what's hapening now and where it came from.
so, thanx , not only for this reply, but for all you've done to bring MusicMan instruments and their music to the world and also for building and tending this terrific MusicMan community ... Blow your horn any day and any way you want, BP and many of us including me will be right here to thank you and cheer you onespecially for the excitement and enjoyment that MusicMan instruments have brought into our lives.:)
all the bass,
/PL

gassing and crashing

Great post BP....Pzo I just saw that Bongo 5 HS over at Act1...it looks very nice, very nice indeed.

hey Smakbass,
thanx for the plug on the BONGO5 at Act1 and right now, I'm trying to honour BP's advice for me to "be patient", but I think I'm getting mighty close to having an accident with the VISA card ;)... first, I have some fingers to get wiggling:(
all the bass,
/PL:)

Wow. I had a pretty uninspiring day today. Went to work even though I felt awful because I HAD to get some work done to keep a commitment my boss had made. I knew I had to get it done so I just put one foot in front of the other and did it. Slow going, and I was really thinking how much I wanted to be home in bed. Later on the way home it occurred to me that the thing I was doing was really important for our company, and I gave myself some credit for getting us that far, and realized it was an honor to take it the rest of the way no matter how I felt.

Then I got home, still feeling crummy, but I realized my husband was helping out with some things above and beyond to make me feel better. Then I talked with some really good friends for a while. Then I played my new EBMM bass and loved it. And then I checked in here and read this thread.

You know, I thought this was a bad day but it really turned out to be perfect. Thanks, Pzo, thanks BP, and thanks to everyone on the forum and at EBMM for adding to my life. You ALL rock.

It's amazing how much cool stuff ends up only on this side of the forums.
Thanks for taking us all along on the musical ride of a lifetime.

These are the stories I live for here on the forum. Great read. BP get carried away any time you want.

Pzo, take your time, I don't think EBMM is planning to stop making basses anytime soon. :p

wow, great story BP.

I love how the business is still in the family and controlled by the family. I also think it's really great how you find time to get on the forum near enough every day and mix with the customers, find out what they want etc. I can't wait to see what you come up with now you've done the sterling 5 and bongo 6! that could prove interesting!
