Quality Cables?

I also use Ernie Ball cables. They very low noise and use Switchcraft ends. Great bang for the buck.

if they are good enough to be used in ALL morse's stage rigs.....then they are good enough for me ..........

i do miss the multi colored dual center conductor stuff though.......

I never paid much attention to cables until I got my ProTools rig. And by accident I was tracking some guitar and it just didn't sound right, so I changed leads and woh the difference! All the top end had gone. Now it is one the most important parts of the chain.

Thanks for all the feedback. Lots of good info here.

First off, sad to say, I didn't know EB made cables. I guess I should have checked that first. Thanks to Tommy, now I will.

I'll also take a look at the other brands mentioned. The whole 'Monster' debate was one of the reasons I asked this question. I know cables can make a difference, but I too have found that the Monster stuff is just REALLY overpriced. They may be good, but I doubt they are good enough to justify the price difference. My favorite is their $200 HDMI cables. They're digital for god's sake! They should be LESS expensive than heavily shielded analog cable, not more!

For most of my life I've done the cheapo cable thing - either making them myself, or buying from the clearance basket. Now that I have my tone the way I want it, AND I'm getting tired of constantly repairing cables, I'd like to do better.

I got the Monster's because I wanted something shielded very well, high signal quality and well made.

I've got years of gigs and thosuands of hours of rehearsals on these and they still work perfectly.

It cost me about $100 for two cables a few years ago. It was money well spent in my book.

No complaints here. ;)

Jeffrey, don't get me wrong. I'm not saying that Monster doesn't make good cables - in fact, they do. My problem with them is you can get cables that are just as good MUCH cheaper (speaking mainly from experience with audio/video cables, not instrument cables). I just think Monster over-charges for what you get. If you are happy with them and can afford them, more power to ya! :)

I've never seen an EB cable anywhere. I'm just gonna have to move, this place sucks too much.

Hah ... I meant move out of the country ... or just to another city!

(Btw - I never see EB straps, etc in Toronto! Don't think I've ever run across EB cables, and just end up ordering everything from the states ... <sigh>)

Yeah me too. I use the local stores for minor items, strings, picks, etc... I did buy my Axis from a somewhat local dealer, in another province, but still. Any effects or pricey stuff that I tend to want from time to time I have to order, nobody nearby carries anything or they're ridiculously overpriced.

I'm shocked, SHOCKED not to see my peeps representing Spectraflex more on this thread! :D

I must be the EXTREME exception because I've had relitivly bad luck with Monster cables. (except for their speaker cable) I use a combination of spectraflex Quad conductor cable and george l's in my setup. my pedalboard setup is really bizarre up and I had to start using george l's because I needed to have lots of odd-lengthed cable. when I'm not using my pedalboard, though I use Spectraflex. I think I started using them in 93' and I still have annd use the first one I bought. they're bulletproof, and not that expensive - especially given their service life.

another one I LOVE (but only own a couple of because I'm so entrenched in the spectraflex) is the Pro-Co silent excalibur.

I've got to agree with you. Spectraflex are the best cables I've ever used, and I've had very bad luck with monter cable (besides for audio). I'm just glad that monster has the return policy they do. I've not had one problem with Spectraflex, and I've had some of those cables over ten years.
