Just read a Post here about Music Man Quality Control and I'm only posting this because I buy 3 or 4 Of these basses a Month and have over 300 of them and I've never been more impressed with the quality control. The way The Compensated nut is cut there is no way is going to be smooth like the older style nuts, it's not designed to look or feel like that, I also have many basses where the string will touch the head stock going to the the tuning peg and that's very normal to get the string low enough so fretting on the first fret is easy.
Sorry but I have been going to Namm Shows since 1977 and Ernie Ball Puts out the best product quality controlled as if these we're Hand Made, so before someone can judge them Please know the product and how and why it works the way it does.

I work in quality control (industrial) and I have to agree. I have five Bongo fivers and they range in date from 2004 to 2010, the consistancy of the quality is impressive. You know when you buy a used Bongo that there's a high probability of a good product. I think the ease of making adjustments helps too. Less chance of messing something up. The electronics have been flawless too. I think you are more likely to have trouble with your batteries or strings than the instrument itself.

WE make mistakes. I wish we didnt. But we also take care of them.

Whenever there is a bees nest stirred between some bog bass forums there are trolls that come on to pull your guys strings.

I dont bite and unless there are pics there is a 60 40 chance that it is a troll

BP,

Absolutely mistakes are inevitable. I once had a brand new SR5 that had a problem. Someone had over tightened the battery compartment assembly, and it cracked the finish. I called EBMM customer service, and they let me ship the bass directly to them, and within 2 weeks, I had a brand new flawless bass back in my hands. THAT'S why I am a loyal customer.

EDIT: Oh I forgot to mention EBMM picked up the tab for everything... :)

+1 The problems I've sent my bass back for were really considered very minor and customer service has always gone above and beyond.

I don't even know anymore how many Music Man basses I've had. A lot. Maybe not in MusicmanNut category, but a lot. I think Dave says he has 300. Overall, I've probably had that many throughout the years. Maybe.

Ask me how many I've sent back to the factory for QC problems.

A dozen on hand and under 15 over all .... meaning
I haven't parted with hardly any. Only one bummer
ax, a Boingo 5 that wouldn't set up properly, so I
just returned it to MF. It was an MF clearance item
when I bought it, so I'd expect the previous buyer
had encountered the same problem, which implies
that MF will just keep reselling stuff til it lands on a
buyer who doesn't notice a problem ?

Too bad about that bummer, too .... cuz it was a
Boingo 5HH FL with piezo bridge [sigh].

------------------

Would like [?] to add here that the cases seem to
be going downhill, acknowledging that EB doesn't
make them, acoarst.

I could not agree more about the quality control. Before Music Man, I would never buy a bass without playing it, just was my thing. However, a little over 12 years ago, I ordered 3 Stingrays from J.D. at Corner Music in Nashville. All were perfect when they came. Granted, I set them up to my playing style, but from then on I became a believer in Music Man. My obsession has grown quite a bit, but I have never regretted it and never had a bad bass show up either.

Come on, facts are facts!! EBMM instruments are among the "finest" production guitars made - hands down!! And, the truth of the matter is - all players already know this!!

I have always maintained that the Stingray is the best "off the rack" Instrument in the world. A credit to Mr BP and all at EBMM.

I have only owned 4 MM basses but have played countless numbers of them and with all of them, I have only encountered 1 with any issues. It was a Stingray 5 H and the only issue it had was very dead strings on it. If that's the worst I ever have to deal with, I don't think I will ever complain.

BP et al.,
With regards to the thread that was closed and discussed a quality control issue:

I have played that bass in particular extensively. Almost bought it when I bought my Classic. I went with the black because I preferred the color and figuring on the neck on the black VS. Coral. Consistency in feel and set up were identical. To my tastes both basses were bliss. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

Are you saying that EBMM paid shipping both directions ?

Curious to know, cuz I do need to send a warrantee problem,
meaning the whole bass, to SLO. It's a brand new SR5, and
it has a wiring or PU problem: the B-string goes nearly silent
at some positions on the 5-way switch, but other positions
work just fine. Very weird .....

I'm a pretty loyal customer myself. Sure, I confess to buying
about 10 used MMs ... but I also bought 5 NEW ones ! On an
under $50K salary, I figger I pull my weight.
