Hi friends :)

I'm about to order an albert lee MM90 , I'm basicely a strat' player, and the idea of a fully P90 loaded strat makes me crazy !!! and it will be the perfect balance to my beloved luke's...

so I have a question about the neck ...is it a typical MM neck, like the silo's and axis, small with very low radius, perfect for extra low action ?

BTW, i'm in search of pics of an ALMM90 /white / natty head / white perloid pickguard...thanks ;)

Salut Tristan

Even though I've never tried an AL myself, I've often seen on the forum that the neck profile is very close to the axis neck. I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable than me will chime in

I'm not a silo/axis expert but I have had an "Albert" for about 8 weeks!
The neck is sublime - you will love it.

I have only had one derogatory remark about the neck since I flashed the Albert about - but of the guitars I have, I think it's the most comfortable to play.
Lets see some photos of it and "Welcome to the AL owners Club" ;)

Most of Alberts neck is covered in curly grey hair. But it seems to seem to be much like most other 61 year old guitarists...a little wrinkled but Im really not into little scragly englishmen...now give a scraggly headed english womaaa.......OHHHHHH you were talking about the guitars neck!!!!!!!!

The AL is more lie a vintage strat (non "V") C Shaped. It really isnt like an axis neck but is FANTASTIC!

The AL "feels" closer to an Axis neck than a Silhouette neck, but it's symetrical, while the Axis neck enjoys a peculiar-shaped back that's all it's own... My fave EBMM neck is the Axis carve, but the Albert Lee is a very, very close second...

The radius is 10" and the saddles are all individual adjustable so you'll be able to go low. Don't go too low though, you don't want to lose that sweet tone.

Hey Tristan-

I've got a Luke and an Albert (and Axis, Morses, etc.) so I'm used to going between them. The Albert has a much bigger neck than the Luke, and as everyone says it's similar in feel to the Axis, though bigger and symmetrical.

I have the action waaay low on mine right now for fun. You'll have no problems shredding on it. And what a comfortable body- it's just a playing machine.

Go for it!

hey Beej,
I've really got to try a Luke. I find the AL neck a "dainty neck" in my small hands, so goodness knows what the Luke would feel like.
.................... now where can I find a Luke in Cardiff????;)

Spud,

I know its not that close to Cardiff or in the same country (!!) but try getting across to The Guitar Gallery in Oxford. I was in there yesterday and they had an Axis, Axis Sport, Luke, Petrucci, & a Morse Y2d!!! :D

I tried the Pet, Y2D and Luke and was surprised to find the one I had previously lusted after most (from pics and specs) - the petrucci - was the one I liked the least when it came to playing...because of its too flat/skinny neck. (I'm used to an Axis which has more wood neckwise, like the Al)

The Y2d was incredible, nice comfy neck, lots of tone options and the Luke had a real nice feel too...

Probably get a Luke next so I have some single coil sounds going on...

I feel the same way about the Petrucci. I'd love to love it, but the neck just insn't for me. Shame, because I think it's an awesome guitar.

The Y2D, in my opinion, is the best neck I've ever played. If I had to pick one neck profile and stick with it on every guitar, Y2D it would be. Just perfect.

First EBMM was the Silhouette Special and I thought that neck was the best. Then I got the Axis Sport and they just seemed to be getting better. Then the AL came long and I was blown away by it's neck. Finally, the JP land in my lap, now that's a neck!!!

I haven't had the chance to try a Y2D, but I can tell you I'll be at GC when they get some in and checking it out :).

Using Beej's notion I'd have to say that if I had to pick 1 neck profile it would be a 3 way tie for me Axis Sport, AL and JP. :D

Hey Steve
Nahhh - the last time you sent me there, I went to see an Albert Lee - they had sold it the previous week.:( Ohh well I was just passing thro anyway.

I'm back up North the week after next so will try and track one down up there - not that I can afford one lol !!!

You know, I have got to try out some more of these 'balls, because compared to the necks on my other guitars, the AL neck is "dainty". So if other 'balls have smaller necks again........!!!!!!
