Jeffrey, I didn't mean anything harsh by what I said, if you took it that way. I'm a gear junkie too. I really meant it towards the clowns all over the net that argue about it to the point of bashing things they know nothing about. I'm sure we all know who I am talking about. But in all seriousness, if BP made a plywood guitar that sounded good, I'd probably play it. But it would have to have a killer paint job!

jeffrey cont worry about asking questions...if you feel that you are not able to ask then this isnt what I envision for this dump!
It si really simple...when we make protos for the artists they have ZERO idea what the wood is.....they pick based on the tone....WE have been making basswood guitars for about 16 or 17 years....in this world of internet urban legends and drop of the hat indictments and keyboard warrior cliche giving wouldnt you have heard something about the integrity of the EVH and axis by now?
IN the quest for tone I learned a long time ago that the are many senses that play a part what your ear hears is only one of them.......believe it or not picking position,color, lighting, weight, comfort, temperature.... all of these things determine what sounds best to you...the more comfortable you are the better the guitar will sound to you. This is probably going to be laughed at but I can tell you That in being around guitars all of my life that I see it all the time.....it is kind of like psycho acoustics in audiophile world....

I can see that the more comfy a guitar is the better i will play it, hence the better i will make it sound. i can see where yer coming from ...

I agree BP. We've all done this: Play your guitar and it sounds incredible. Shut the amp off, come back the next day and it sounds like poo. Yet nothing has changed!
Sometimes folks have a problem with non-usa guitars. As long as they sound good who cares? MIM strats sometomes blow away their domestic counterparts. It all comes down to individual feel.

I think Dargin hit the nail on the head.
There are way too many cork sniffing so called tone wood experts out there that can't accept the fact that a common wood can make a fantastic instrument.
Change the name ... add some zeros ... then suddenly the so called experts would sing the praises of the Tilia genus.

If you watch the videos of BP with Petrucci and Morse you will see alot of talk about hand position, body cuts , balance, wanting to see where John was picking on the protos. I was suprised by the amount of discussion about ergonomics---buy it makes total sense--- kind of a duh moment on my part--if it aint comfortable and balanced it wont matter what it sounds like!!!!!

Everything you said makes sense to me. How else can it be explained that each of my different guitars seem different to me at different times? Clearly, they don't change from month to month.
It also makes sense when you read the internet postings about a given guitar proclaiming it as everything from the Holy Grail to a door stop depending on the perceptions of the poster.
Our fickle nature must be a frustrating aspect of your business when you have a product you want to market...

Like I said before...they sound great to me...I own 2 axis guitars, and have a third on order, and I will continue to buy more as my finances allow me to.
I was simply asking about basswood to learn more about the guitars.

Well... I am afraid that I am one of those cork-sniffing internet geeks... But I find nothing wrong with basswood at all (the Axis, in particular, sounds amazing). However, basswood is simply not the tone that I prefer. I am a fairly boring traditionalist and usually I prefer something as basic as an alder body and a maple neck... Yet the best tone I ever heard came from a maple neck 20th with a trem. Just goes to show how bad of a cork sniffer I really am.
