That may be a good idea all in intself ... There aren't too many affordable 7-strings on the market...
Maybe not just a mirrored pickguard, but a whole broken mirror top a-al Paul Stanley's Iceman :D ? What do you think Raz?
Do you have a link or any pics?
Back to the pickguard, I was thinking mirror like diamond plate

, I'm always stuck in awe by the number of guitars they carry along

Gr, Tom.
With the exception of this year where Steve was showing off the y2d. Every time I have seen the Dregs or the SMB in concert Steve has only played one guitar throughout the entire show. A brand damn new one has hung by the amp ready to go and remained untouched for the entire evening.

I used to have a link to a custom shop that did the conversions... not any more :-(

Here's what I was able to find with google:
http://www.electricguitar.50megs.com/stanley.htm
http://vintageibanez.tripod.com/psmirror.html

This is the current Stanley's signature line - Silvertone (presumably junk), but they have cracked mirror designs as well

Wow that would also look cool...I think a SUB 7, at a reasonable price (with a unique pickguard ;) ) would piss alot of people off :D and make a lot of people happy

Granted, it's all a bit circumstantial and second-hand info, but I thought I'd share nonetheless. Here are some pictures of Vai with the tech in question to back up this (perhaps somewhat unbelievable) story.
I have no doubt that this incident is true - Vai has always stated - right from day one - that his number one priority with designing a guitar that he would endorse was to ensure that he could go into a guitar store and pick one up and play it and it would be what he wanted and expected...

However, there's lots and lots of info on Steve, his guitars and their history on Jemsite if you want all the gory details (or as many as a bunch of Vai/Jem fanatics could dig up over 15 years of digging)...

There's a great deal of info on Steve's site as well in his the Machines section - you might find one or two stock Jems in 120 some-odd guitars he has listed there... The vast majority are designated "prototype", "no serial number" or "one off" which means Ibanez gave 'em to him...
