Hello all!
I have an ibanez S2120 prestige series. I like everything in my guitar exept the sound. So I have two options. 1 change guitar. 2 change pickups. The first option is sure the best but it costs a lot of money. So I think I will try the second option and if the results are not good then I will procced to the first option. During my search for a new guitar I was totaly amazed by the Musicman John Petrucci. If the pickups replacemend wont work I will buy this guitar. In the midwile I found some used Musicman John Petrucci pickups and I am thinking to buy them as a replacemend for my curent pickups. I have a few questions though.

1. would they fit to my guitar as they are without any other modifications?
2. How can I recognize that the picups are the Musicman John Petrucci pickups? I can not trust someone that I dont know..
3. Would they be a good replacement for my curent pickups or not a good choise? (maybe these pickups are only for the Mjp and I sould buy some other dimarzio or an other brand picups)

P.S. Tomorow 22/01/2007 I will buy the pickups so I hope someone reply until then

Closest thing to the Petrucci neck pickup is a Dimarzio Air Norton. If you like the old Petrucci set (NOT the DSonic), then get a Steve's Special for the bridge.

The tricky thing is the wiring. The Petrucci guitar uses a 3 way switch, center split (coils 2 & 3 in parallel). You'll need a 12 pole switch, on-on-on. You can get them on Allparts website, or from Dimarzio.

I've got two of the petrucci guitars, matching 6 and 7 string. They are both wonderful instruments. I like the sound of the center position of the switch enough I wired my Jackson Kelly the same way.

As far as I know, you cannot buy the JP neck pickup as a replacement part. The bridge one is Drop Sonic Dimarzio though.

As I say at my first post I found some used jp pickups. I know that the pickups are custom and you can not buy them. The guy that I will buy the pickups from has a jp and he replaced the pickups so he sels the original ones.

My guitar have a 5 way switch. Will I have a problem?

The 3 questions I posted on my first message are not yet answered.. I hope someone answers because I think I have less than 12 hours before I will make the pursuase

There are 5-way switches available that will do some neat series/parallel things. Dimarzio and allparts also offer these.

I'm not familiar with your guitar to know if you'll need to mod it. Shouldn't have to though, the only time I've seen a problem is when the pup has a cover.

I do not know how you can tell by the pics. Dimarzios usually have the model stamped in the back.

The petrucci pups sound great. unless you're playing jazz, they're pretty versatile.

thank you very much for the quick reply. I dont play jazz. I play rock ,metal and I like most playing solo with distortion and also powerchords. Before I leave my house tomorow (I will make the pursuase) I will check the forum. So any other information I can get is well accepted.

I canceled the pursuase. I think that buying the pickups will not stop me dreaming the Musicman Jhon Petrucci guitar so I will keep my money and go for the guitar.
I have changed my mind 1 milion times. Maybe this is not the last time..

I have a question. The 2007 MJP guitar wil be diferent from the 2006 MJP guitar?

No. You can get the same ol' JP model.

In 2007 there are two 'alternate' versions of the JP available, in addition to the original.

First is the 2007 Limited Edition JP. The color is "Blue Dawn" and it has a special 12th fret inlay that says "2007 LE", and it comes with a fancier case. This will only be available for a limited time in 2007.

Second are the Ball Family Reserve (BFR) JP F-1 models (f-1 as in "Formula One"). These are JP guitars with a lot of changes, made to JP's specifications. The body is made of 3 different woods, the neck is mahogany with a finish, there's an additional pickup switching combination, special case, "Ball Fmaily Reserve" inlay at the 12th fret, and it only comes with ALL the JP options (piezo, matching headstock, JP inlays) and it's available in on of 4 all-new colors.
