Recently I decided to buy an EBMM JP6. So I went to the guitar store to tested the JP. This happend 2 times.
The first was before 3 months. I played the guitar and I was exited.
The second was yesterday.
I also played the guitar and I was exited to. I noticed a diference from the first JP I had played. The bridge pickup was not the same. The new JP had a d sonic at the bridge position (the old one I dont know but for sure it was not a d sonic)
The seller told me that this is the new EBMM JP and the new pickups are a litle more agressive.

What is the diference between the two guitars (old and new EBMM JP).
Are the pickups the only change?
Please help I am confused.

Yes, MusicMan changed the bridge pickup to a D-sonic type pickup on all the Petrucci guitars some time ago.

The only other change that has been made is that the newer guitars also have a compensated nut.

Most people describe the d-sonic is being a "brighter" pickup, but i think "aggressive" describes it equally well. Maybe "more aggressive than the original" would be an even better way to describe it. :) In any case,it's' a great sounding pickup and an intriguing design as well... If it is good enough for JP, then it is good enough for me!

Nope. Still basswood. Like SteveB said, the only other change is the compensated nut.

PS Good choice. I have 'old' and 'new' style JPs. Both are excellent!:D

As do I sigmund!

I can't wait to play the d-sonic through my XXX amp when it finally arrives!

The price went up a few months ago on JPs, but don't think it is due to the new pickup. No pickup is worth a $250 price increase! I bought my mystic dream for just $100 more than what i paid for the new JP that is on its way. Both have the same options (the difference being about a year's time and the mystic dream color option). That tells you how much the price of the JP has gone up.

The BFR JP F-1 guitars are alder body, mahogany tone block, maple top with mahogany neck. Regular JPs, as has been said, are still basswood.
