I just purchased a new SUB 5 but noticed on the MM website that the SUB series is discontinued.

I tried a search on the forum to no avail. I was wondering how long the SUB was made and why they were discontinued?

I wanted to trying playing a 5 string bass and the store I do business with had a few left, brand new, and highly recommended the SUB 5. I am glad they did!

congrats! I recently bought one too, great basses, almost like a stingray for a third of the price haha.

And they discontinued it because they weren't making money from it apparently, it was too cheap. I don't think they were making them long, 2-3 years maybe? I think they stopped over a year ago now or something. Glad i got one though, i always said i would.

A friend of mine in Cincinatti had one that was one of the best basses I've ever played. He sold it to another friend in Houston - only because I didn't have the money.

The Houston guy, a guitar player, decided he wasn't getting his money's worth so he put it up for sale. Me, again, no money.

But Silverburst bought it and it's coming here to visit until he can pick it up later this month.

Frankly, I can't wait to play it again.

The SUBs are fine instruments and were great values.

Still are, really.

I had a S.U.B and a SUB Sterling. Both were amazing basses. I prefer the Sterling neck shape to the StingRay neck. I should have never sold the SUBs, but I succumbed to the siren song of the Bongo. I can't imagine why the SUBs weren't best sellers for EBMM. Everyone should have bought at least two of them. They were cheap, fast, gorgeous and fun to play with (just the way I like my women I might ad:eek:).

I had one (active SUB5 in Textured Blue) a few years ago. Though I'm happy+++ with my SR5, I still regret I have let the SUB go. :(

Actually, when I was at SLO I tried to buy a SUB 5 to bring back to Australia. I couldn't find a store. I found the Drum Factory (I think..name escapes me) and a place that sells classical instruments. But they only had EB Bass strings...about $100 spent there :D My next trip to the US will be better planned!

maybe i should go drop some coin on the one that keeps calling me back.........they dropped the price to $499 Canadian.........
How much is that in USD or GBP? If it's anything close to USD buy it! I got mine off ebay the other month for £350 ($700 USD), and that was a cheap one over here.

I love this picture. This is my passive SUB5. MAN, what an instrument! I'd get another in a hearbeat! Go for it when you can find it! You won't regret it! :D

I'd reccommend that red colour, i have it and it looks VERY nice in real life, nicer than i thought it would, put a black pickguard on it and it's hot

love my SUB. Plays and feels great. Always gets great comments from bandmates, crowd and other bassists. Also it fits in with any song or style we do...can't believe how good it is for the price paid. It was 1/3rd the price of the bass I was gigging with before I picked it up and it is a much better fit tonewise...and feel.

LOVE IT!
