There's no premium top option on a Petrucci because you can't see the wood through the finish. (You can't get a 'trans-' color on a Petrucci.)
Besides, it would be a waste to pay for highly figured wood and then paint over it with an opaque color.
Did your dealer tell you that it's a $500 upcharge for the premium top?

they told me that in order to choose between a flame or quilt, you would have to order the premium top, and the wood would be of better quality. It was an extra 470 dollars i think?

Yeah, that sounds right. I was worried for a minute that your dealer didn't tell you that it would cost more to ensure that you get the quilted top. Sounds like you're on track to getting what you want.

I told them:
Ernie Ball/Music Man Axis
Translucent Gold
Matching Headstock
Maple Neck
And my dad was the one who phoned them about the premium top, he sounded like he knew what he was talking about (dad) so he ordered the Premium Quilt Top.
So if all goes well, I should have the guitar in Mid June-July, and I will post pics as soon as I get it.

I've been without mine for almost 6 months. I had a warranty job done that shipped to EBMM late January and I didn't get back until about 3 weeks ago and my tech has had it since then.
I'm not complaining though..neck looks great and I can't wait to play it but, as they say, "Patience is a virgin: (or something like that....

Thanks again for the very cool neck. My tech has actually had it for 2 weeks (it took me a week to get it to him) and he hopes to do it by early next week. (But you don't need to worry about him, he's very meticulous and very competent..reminds me of somebody....... )

I got it today..very nice.
It plays better than new. It needed a little tweaking but nothing major. Action is great. The tension is just right (break angle over bridge saddles is just how I like it) and no more "break-a-string-a-day" issues.
Bends of a major 3rd or more..no problem, no buzzing, no cacking. Even the trem operates better (stays much closer to "in-tune" than before..nothing's perfect ) I credit this to a well cut nut and appropriate bridge setup.
Harmonics are easy to grab and the clarity and sustain is sweet.

Hey everyone, I played an Axis Sport at a GC near me a couple weeks ago and I loved it. Im normally an Ibanez guy, (prestige!) but I thought the Axis Sport neck was fantastic, albeit a bit smaller, but thats okay for those long diminished arpeggio stretches, and the tones, out of a crappy Crate amp at that!, were pretty amazing. Anyway, the guitar was a used Lefty, with a sunburst finish, matching headstock, 2 dimarzios? (zebra striped), and a vintage trem (non-floating). They want 1499 for it. Considerably more than what I paid for my Ibanez. I went through the whole, "How much is a great instrument worth to you?" routine with the salesguy, but decided to wait. Now they got their uber no payments for 15 months sale going on and I was wondering what I should try to talk the guy down to. Online, it seems you can get these new at around that, and this ones used (though in practically new condition...I wouldnt doubt it if some Rich kid had it for a day and then sold it cause he didnt like the color!
Please..Any hints? Retail values?
