Yes an OLP which was a nice budget guitar but a far cry from a real Axis. You would be correct that when you peeled back the veneer the wood underneath wasn't even maple-it is Basswood. A Maple cap with a Basswood body has been the one consistent in all 3 EVH sigs and is the preferred tone wood combination of most of your technically proficient players sig guitars. Noted Luthier John Suhr who knows a thing about tone calls that combination "The Holy Grail of Tone". You could classify these as student guitars or a decent budget model for those who couldn't afford the real thing yet.

Here is an old thread of what EBMM players thought of these guitars when they first came out which is actually a double old thread as it gets revised 6 years later.http://forums.ernieball.com/music-man-guitars/106-what-do-you-think-olp.html

And here is a much better all original OLP you can look at on Reverb for $199 and lists all the specs- https://reverb.com/item/835408-olp-...v7AbZbY7_9TZlLk1AhQKyCXkR7klnKejMFRoCzorw_wcB

Im starting to think that one of these might be worth looking into ,just not this one ...

And Thanks straycat113 I looked at that one and for another $100 I wouldnt have to try and fix the fake veneer ...haha

I'd go $80 for an OLP in that shape... Make it a project guitar - paint it, or something - could even do a Vai "swirl" if you wanted to get wild! :)

OLP is no axis, but its a pretty fantastic guitar. Was one of the first guitars i've ever owned as a kid, and probably one of the reasons I love the axis so much today! For 80$ I'd be pretty hard pressed to not get it.

edit: they are typically very much worth putting good dimarzios in! I would do that in a heartbeat!
