does anyone own a G&L l-2000?


i know its a music man forum, but im trying to find someone with a stingray and this. a friend is debating the investment of one or the other.


anyone have any feedback?
 
I haven't played the L-2000, but build quality should be comparable. I have the P-bass model, which is a step down, and it's well made. The finish on the neck of my Ray is much nicer, though.
 
I had one. Build quality is top notch and the things are solid. More options with the G&L and some great pickups. However, I don't like the G&L pre-amp at all. Focuses way too much on the treble and gets noisy. In passive mode they rock, one of the best passives out there.

It can get close to stingray in tone, but doesn't nail it. I prefer MusicMans in feel and tone. It's really something you need to try for yourself...

Another note on G&Ls, the SB-2 is best passive "P" bass ever made.
 
word, i love my music man, but if we are going to be touring, i may want something a bit different, maybe i'll just get a stingray with a rosewood fingerboard.

eh, when we played the warped tour last year in jersey, they had a booth with a plug in play attatchment. i saw the bongo and was like wow, looks wierd, but how does it play. it played pretty good. i still like my stingray better.

if i do by another bass, itll be a ray. i dont even know why i questioned it. i went to guitar center, and played a g&l. they are nice, but they are no ray. gound for finger picking, but i use a pick(yeah yeah yeah i know) and was too clicky for me.

my main objectives for this year are.

next week, get bass into shop, cut the new nut(since prior nut was cut to deep), have te new input jack put in(thanks ernie ball<3) and have some of the wiring re done, ie all the wires from the pickup and preamp back to the input jack(and to the battery compartment, be all re done with new wires and what not. and a set up.

following week, look into a new head, which i need, either ampeg svt 3 pro, or mesa 400+

then, hopefully by christmas, im going to swap my neck out for a regular maple one from eb, and or get a shock mount rack case for this winters tour.

then, after i get a cover for my cab, i will be set.

maybe in the future i will buy another ray(if i can find one new where the price is right) or trade my mexi p-bass in for a sub or an olp stingray amd be done with it.
 
Know what you mean. My fender Jazz still feels good and is fun to play but if I show up to a gig with it the band starts cussing me they want the SR 5. Guess my bass buying future is total EB. But I am going Bongo next trip.

my first time at rehearsal i walked in with a sr800 ibanez crapolla. they laughed at me. that night, i went out and bought a rick 4003. had it for two days(two rehearsals) and both times it made my hand turn numb(since i pick towards the bridge, my arm was resting ona bad angle) so i took it back, got the stingray, and its been that way ever since.

they sometimes bust my balls, and tell me to sell it and get a p-bass, but i always tell them to listen to our live stuff, listen to the new record, and you tell me what i should or shouldnt play.

plus, the guy who is teaching me jazz stuff(who is a drummer) wont play with me unless i have that/

The EB traveling show was in my town a couple of years ago. How cool is that setup? I played their Axis guitar and even I sounded good. Big fun.
 
i use the yellow tortex dunlop picks, so i can la fast.

i do play towards the neck, when i am playing chrods to fill in the spaces when our guitars are doing melodies or octave leads.

it was awesome. the line for the actual guitars were filled with teenagers who played nirvana songs badly, it was great.

and to the other guy who asked me.

flat earth society.

we played last years warped tour, we got pick to play.

this year they didnt pick us because they wanted to get some new talent, so we played hellfest, which was ten million times better.
 
I just sold my L2000 because I couldn't the deep lows out of it that I wanted. The pickups are overpowering. I ran in passive mode the whole time that I owned it. It is very strong on the treble side. My Answer- I just ordered a Stingray!!!!!

I also think that when G&L made the Tribute line, they devalued the american line. Resale value is low, watch ebay prices.
