I play in a classic rock cover band. I have a EBMM Steve Morse model, which I love for the most part. The neck is the best I've ever played, and with a flick of the pickup selector switch and/or toggle switches, I can get the tones I need to go from Bad Company to Tom Petty to ZZ Top to The Police etc. etc. etc.

The only thing I'm not crazy about the Morse is the body. It's not contoured or shaped in any way--basically a chunky, heavy slab of wood.

I've never had the chance to play a Luke--only seen pics of them--so I was wondering:

* What kind of tones can you get from the pickup combination? I assume a solid humbucker sound, but how about a bright, Strat-type sound?

* Is it comfortable to play for hours? How about the weight and body shape?

Thanks!

I've never played a Morse so can only compare to the Axis and my old Jems and Universes but the Luke body is far more comfortable than any of those, and probably a little lighter. Closest I can think to compare it to is the Ibanez JS range, though the Luke body has more substance to it.

As for tones, there's not much I can't get out of it. I can't imagine it'll have the repertoire of a Morse (does anything?) but I can certainly get from Vai, through Van Halen to Hendrix. Blues and jazz tones are a piece of cake as well. Unlike passive setups, the volume and tone really have a lot of subtle adjustment possibilities as well to help alter the tone substantially. Best to try one, but I love mine. To play, I prefer it to the Axis in all honesty, though the neck takes a lot of people by surprise to start with but it really is stunningly comfortable to play.
