This is probably a really dumb question, but the only piezo equipped guitar I have experience with is a Parker, which only has one output...

From what I gather you can:
1. Use the acoustic/mono output to mix both magnetic and piezo into one mono cable and therefore one rig.
2. Use the acoustic/mono output with one mono cable and the magnetic/stereo output with one mono cable and send each to a rig
3. use the magnetic/stereo with a stereo cable to a splitter box and then from there go to two separate rigs...

My question, assuming that the above three instances are right, is about option 3. Is there a box that will split the two signals without a footswitch? WHat I love about the Parker is that you can make the change from electric to acoustic by flipping a switch and not having to step on a box as well... And second can you run a stereo Y cable out from the stereo out to send directly to two amps like you can on a brian moore or parker?

THANKS!

Jason

If you buy a Petrucci with piezo, it has a 3-way switch at the top horn of the guitar. Facing down, it only send the signal from the pickups. In the middle, it sends both pickups and piezo. With it facing up, it sends only piezo.
So, in theory, regardless of how your cables are set up, you will not need to do anything with a footswitch.

Right. THats what I was hoping... My concern was whether or not a Y cable will work? I looked at the FAQ section of the site and it says it can take a stereo cable to be split through a box... Can it just take a regular stereo Y cable?

One of the outputs will output both piezo and magnetics - all three of the switch options will be heard through whatever is plugged into. The other output is for strictly piezo - if you don't want to buy a splitter box, use the two cables. If you don't mind a splitter box, just use one cable. A Y cable shouldn't be necessary at all.

Cool! Thanks so much! So with the splitter box, I will need a stereo cable? Or I assume a Y cable would work (I have a few lying around from the parker days)

Anything that splits the two signals from a stereo cable to two mono cables should work, I think.

An option...

Hi Jason,

As a tip: I use this box from Road Rage (link to splitter box) and a Planet Waves 20 feet stereo cable PW-CPGSRA-25 to this box. The box can route both piezo and mags simultaneously and you can keep using the switch on your guitar. Works like a charm and no more fussing around with Y-cables. Now we only have to wait for a stereo wireless unit ;-)

Regards,

Rob

I use a EB splitter box. It works like a champ!! I purchased mine form Pete at DuBALDO Music. I think they may have been discontinued though. You could also use a EB stereo volume pedal.

Take a look at my post number 24 in this thread - also my post number 35 shows you how to build your ownhttp://www.ernieball.com/forums/music-man-guitars/27209-alberts-w-piezos-2.html.

The pet and the AL use the same Piezo preamp, the only difference between the 2 guitars is that the Pet also has a toggle switch to switch in and out the Piezo.

Also take a look at this thread to see how I use my Piezo/mags through an EB stereo pedal

and here's a real nice variation

Another great thread on this including my video clip is here

This isn't exactly true. Both outputs will give you magnetic or piezo.

The Stereo/Magnetic output is for both magnetic and piezo when you use a stereo cable with splitter or y cable. When used with a mono cable you get magnetic only.

The Mono/Piezo output is for when you use a mono cable and want both signals available. The Mono/Piezo can switch between magnetic and piezo signals but only to send them to a single source. This would be like the Parker where you have to use an A/B/Y box (footswitch) to change the destination of the piezo signal when you switch to piezo on the guitar.

You could also use 2 mono cables. When you do this, the magnetic signal only goes to the Magnetic/Stereo output and the piezo signal only goes to the Mono/Piezo output.

I use a stereo cable into a Switchcraft SC600 splitter and from there go to my G-System/Axe-FX rig on one side of the splitter and to a Radial ProDI on the other side.
