Hi. I'd appreciate any info on this:

I played a very lightweight SR4 today: natural with a rosewood board. It looked to be of fairly recent vintage. The body wood had a nice grain, and the finish was not gloss: it had more of the "gun-oil/wax" sort of hand. Anybody know if this was a standard offer at some point? A different body wood? A refinish? (didn't look like that to me, but I'm no expert..

Thanks in advance.

They offered a natural satin finish for a limited time a few years back. It was always done on an ash body I believe.

I think this is a pic of one, the only shine you see is on the lower bout where your forearm crosses the body. Up in the cutaways there's no shine at all.

Thanks!

Bdgotoh,

Thanks! Yes, that looks like it exactly! Sweet bass--I'm seriously thinking about it. Now, if I can only find a buyer for the 62 reissue P-Bass that sits in my office, unplayed...

Bris Vegas. AUSTRALIA.
It's offered in the 1996 and 1997 catalogues. I don't have the cats either side of those years but it's not offered in the 1994 nor 1999.

Jon (I think) said that Sir Paul has 2 Sterlings with that finish.

P.S. Forgot to say: the finish is "Natural Velvet".

I think matte black has been available for awhile. I have them on a couple of EBs and really like how they look. No fingerprints!
