Question

I still have my first bass ... i probably always will :) he is a black Epiphone with a PJ pup configuration (i have no idea what the model name is). i got it at guitar center in 1993 (maybe 1994, cant remember).

i didnt get an amp for it though and ended up borrowing a buddy's Squire 15 watt guitar amp. I was a big Metallica fan at the time so i enjoyed pushing the little distortion button on & off :). The first song i ever learned to play was Anesthesia, a bass solo by Metallica's Cliff Burton on their first album, which was the reason I decided to play bass.

ive since put a few stickers on him and upgraded the pup's to EMGs about 2 years after i got it

My first bass was an awfull korean made spade...didn't sound great and was vey hard to play. As a student, I didn't have any money to buy something better, and I played it on a low cost guitar amp...i let you imagine the poor sound it had.

After that i bought a better bass wich brand was "Vantage". Not great but acceptable for a passive bass. It sounded better as the first one, considering I also bought a bass amp at this time.

I played it 4 years and I still have it, but dond't play it anymore since I receivde the Bongo.

Mine too was a Musicmaster - in a dark reddish colour. I bought it from a friend for £150 with a nice little Marlin amp, plus case, lead & strap.

I got the Jazz bug & got royally ripped off by a local shop and (admittedly partly through my own naivity/ignorance) ended up with a '72 JB neck on an ESP body for my Musicmaster + £400.

Should have kept the MMaster!
 
a squier standard 5 string special, or sumthin like that, it was metallic green with a white pg, now its silver sparkle with a black textured pg (like the subs finish). Id post some pics but I dont know how to do that lol
 
My first bass was brought by my father when I was 12 back in 1977...it was a black Univox w/ white pickguard for about $108.00. I bought my first bass when I turned 18...it was a natural wood Vantage VA900 for around $700.00. I still have both instruments today, hanging proudly with the rest of the collection.

My first bass guitar was a new Univox Hi Flyer back in 1975. I think it was about $100. I sold it to a bass student of mine...now I wish I still had it.
 
oh, man...my parents purchased my first bass for me. The one thing I was able to find and that they would spend on was a...so, embarassed!!!...Sears (yes, the store!!!) bass and amp kit from a catalog... :eek:

I've tried to block that out of my memory. I used to catch the bus to go to take lessons and it did not come with a case. Try doing that in Miami!!!!!..No fun at all!!! :eek:

That thing was a like a chunk of wood with dead flat strings. My instructor never said anything bad about the bass, only that, "One day you may want to get something a little better"...bless him :)

That's alright. That's where my parents bought my first drum kit from. The only thing that helped was the fact that they ran out of their regular merchandise and substituted a better (although not that good) kit so that it would be there by Christmas. When I was 15 I thought I wanted to be a drummer. I didn't know I was a bass player yet.
