Hey, guys. I'm about to order my first axis (my dream guitar), but I have two questions for you veterans first.

1.) I like really low action, and by the picture on the site, it looks like the back of the floyd rose may hit the body before the action can be lowered enough for my liking. Is this just the picture?
2.) Does it come with a hard case?

That's it. I tried the search function, but found nothing.

Cheers!

Hi Jeff...

My 2 cents ok

"1.) I like really low action, and by the picture on the site, it looks like the back of the floyd rose may hit the body before the action can be lowered enough for my liking. Is this just the picture?"

That´s exact as the pic. You can setup your guitar with your preferences, but remember, axis shape neck is very different of an ibanez shape neck for example. I prefer 1000x Axis neck, but probably you dont´ get low action like an ibanez , but you can setup with good action for you too.

"2.) Does it come with a hard case?"

yes, all music man´s comes with hard case (excellent´s cases).

The Floyd on the Axis is flush mounted - set to dive only. There's no recess.

the action can be lowered by truss rod adjustments depending on string gauge, and by adding or removing shims.

I will say that they come from the factory set darn near perfectly for each guitar. The action is pretty low on them, IMHO.

Hey Jeff,

Welcome to the forums. The Axis is a great choice. I have 2 of them and the action on them is low and perfect right from the factory. Like Tony says, the floyd rests against the body. For divebombs only. It's not meant to float.

If you are looking for a guitar that has a floating trem, definately check out the John Petrucci signature. I have one of these as well. The neck is very similar to an Ibanez wizard. And the bridge is incredibly stable. And the best thing.......no locking nut needed. :)

You can not go wrong with either of these models. It's all down to personal taste.

Thanks, guys. I actually play jackson guitars, and I like my strings almost touching the frets, but I like the fact that it's dive only as I don't really use my whammy bar. I don't see why I wouldn't be able to have super low action on these great guitars. They've got the screws on either side of the bridge, so it should be no problem. I actually didn't like the factory setups on my 2 Jacksons, and set them up to my liking with just the screws, so it should be the same thing with the axis.

Thanks for answering my questions!

Perhaps a favour I could ask one of you guys? Could you grab your axis, and crank the strings down as low as they can go, and give me the results? I'd just hate to have you guys mess up your set-ups.

Jeff,

You can get your strings to "sleep" on the frets if you want!!!

I like low action too! But you can't expect the manufacturer of ANY guitar to provide you with this from the factory. They have to have some degree of margin for many, many reasons, not only providing factory action that meets a "common ground" player action.

You achieve low action by what's been mentioned (the truss rod is not involved in lowering action, only straightening the neck or giving relief.)

See a competent "tech".

1. Pull the neck and angle it more (neck shims).
2. Remove any saddle shims and/or use smaller saddles.
3. Sand the body (where the trem rests on it). Be careful you need to be aware of a. pickup height to strings b. trem pivot screws only go down so far c. be sure the trem sits level when resting on body.

Thanks for letting me know that, TNT!! I'm a pretty good tech when it comes to setting up a guitar for good action, but I was worried the floyd would hit the body. I'm glad that won't be an issue, and I can order my dream axe. I can't wait to share pics!
