Questions about petrucci guitar!

Hi. can someone take a pic of the custom inlays on the petrucci guitar for me...I'm wondering if I should pay the extra for them.. yet the pics on most websites are a bit small and unclear....Also does anyone know of any place in lincolnshire in the uk where I could try out the petrucci model? I have relativeley small hands and have been playing on a les paul special thus far.. though i find it hard to play on it due to the smaller scale (I prefer normal guitars)..is the petrucci alot bigger than a normal guitar (the neck)? Whats the piezo like? and I've heard of problems with the tuning due to the truss rod... is that still a problem?

This is the best I can do....the flash on my digital camera reflects too much on the shield inlay. Hope this helps.

Go to the guitars and gear and go to page 2. There is a supposed to be a thumb nail pic of the inlay, but for some reason it is not showing. Click it and it should show you the headstock and JP inlay. I tested it and it worked for me. Hopefully it will work for you.

Alas, I am too much of a computer idiot to be able to post the pic in the thread. I tried to upload the photo, but the file was too large. I don't know how to shrink it down without getting mad and wanting to throw my monitor out the window...hehehehe.....

Actually, the 1st fret inlay is the 'biggie', but the other inlays are tiny shield shapes instead of round dots. It really doesn't look much different though, other than the biggie.

I went ahead and paid extra for it anyway, it's nice to have something other than dots or rectangles on the board.

If you can get a hold of the cd An Evening with John Petrucci and Jordan Rudess, JP goes back and forth from piezo to magnetic throughout.

Plus its just some dang good music

Also, I can suggest "Through Her Eyes" and "The Spirit Carries On" from the Scenes From a Memory Live CD/DVD. The rhythm parts are using piezo...

Thanks for postin' the pic for him dwf.....piezo? Sounds great. I have it on my JP-7 and on the new one I ordered. I really like it personally. I too have small hands, and I really like the feel of the JP's. They really fit me great. You should really try to find one in my opinion though, I would definitely want to try one before I buy one.

I am going to hijack briefly, but this post is still related, with minor tangent:

The evening of Van Halen (two weeks ago this evening), my previous vocalist/friend in my group and I were graced with the opportunity post-concert to visit norm's EBMM showroom, aka his music room. She slept in another room through our jams (she had to do the drive back to Phoenix, and had been up since 3 AM that morning!), but norm and I had a good time making noise and having fun. If you ever get the opportunity to hang out with this cat, do so. He's a hell of a guy, and an absolute rare breed. One could only WISH that there were more honest and genuine people like this guy in the world, as it would be a much better place.

On topic, I was able to partake of many an EBMM that evening (OK, it was after midnight, so morning. ) -- Petrucci, Axis, and Silhouettes (oh my!), and of course, the grand Morse model as well. Oh, and lest I forget the Sil bass guitar...that's an interesting character in itself.

That piezo, well there's no other way to describe it. It is a gift from God.

You want to make things in your life happy? One, get to know a person like norm-ie, and just as important, do not pass go, do not collect $200, get an EBMM with a piezo...you will not regret either.

While I'm still waiting for my JP6 to arrive, I did order the Piezo. The upcharge was like $200, so I figured you couldn't lose at that price. If it sounds half as good as the Rudess/Petrucci disc, it will be well worth it.

I look at it like this.. it's sorta like getting a nice acoustic/electric for only $200, and with the great feel of a Petrucci! Just the extra tonal possibilites that you can get by combining the Piezo output with the magnetic pickups makes ya want to buy it.

Thanks.. I do have the cd.. I like the piezo tone when he strums it though when he plays the fast "shred" passages. he does seem to either hit the string a bit too hard or the piezo seems to pick i it up too well... i think I 'm going to get a piezo model.....#
Is there problems with the guitar going out of tune due to the neck not being sealed?
Does anyone here have a gt6? that has an acoustic sound on it which is very good... does the piezo surpass that ?

Not sure he uses the peizo for the "shred" passages... although I could be confused about exactly what part you're talking about.

In any case... the guitar doesn't have any tuning problems with the neck not being sealed... the only problem is when it explodes....... I hate that.

There are 2 input jacks, so you have a deisignated jack for piezo, and you have a stereo type jack for either electric and/or piezo, depending on how you set up your rig.

If you have never played a 7 string, I would definately try one first, unless you are very serious about playing it - otherwise you end up with an expensive decoration in a case under your bed, while you wait to sell it.

7 String. I have one and will tell you this. The fret board is wider (obviously) and takes some gettin' used to. I happen to like it personally. But, take the advice Pete has given you. If you never played one, you better try one. You could be making a mistake. A 7 string is not for everyone. I happen to like mine, but I am still getting used to it.

piezo is perfect...

...for live acoustic sounds. i have a ovation 25th anniversary and it not really better live. i have an acoustic exciter and then direct to the mixer and thats great. only thing is that the strings break (how do you call in english??) exact on the piezo if you dont change them often enough. maybe thats because if youre strummin acoustic you play a bit harder than usually on electric guitars. i m going to try EB reinforced strings maybe thats a solution too. sorry for my english (im from austria) se ya. auge.
