hello,
i decided to sell my ibanez after a month i had it and to buy a john petrucci music man.
id like to ask some questions...
first which colors are available today?(i saw that some has it in egyptian smoke and i didnt even saw they mentioned it on the model color description).
second i saw that some of u here mentioned they have the jp but with other pickups than the d sonic... i thought that the d sonic arent even an upgrade and that they come along with it... they arent? or u just changed pickups?
i saw on pictures that the nick is really thick... do u think that an ibanez user wont have a problem get used to it?
btw can i drop d with the bridge or i cant like the floyd rose?(i mean, dropping d without getting complicated with the other strings tunning).
thanks,
Daniel.

neck is super comfortable, and it is thin, not SUPER thin but thin. As far as pickups. The bridge pickup was changed a few months ago from modified Steve's Special to D-sonic. Neck pickup is still the same as was before..

As far as colours here is the chart

http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/color_chart/available.html

there will be a limited run for 2007 in blue dawn color. Also there will be a new JP limited edition with a maple top and other goodies. I think it will be announced at NAMM and here in the forum

cheers

Being a former Ibanez guy myself, I can recommend the EBMMJP to anybody who use to be the same. John's model is available in these colors: http://www.ernieball.com/mmonline/color_chart/available.html

As for the pickup, my D-sonic came stock but many probably switched it out and put their choice of pickups in. As far as I know, Ernie Ball does not do this at the factory and any pick up change would be at your own discreation. Some people prefer the D-Sonic to the modified Steve's Special that use to be JP's bridge pickup, some don't. I myself love the D-Sonic!

When ordering a JP you can also decide if you'll like the piezo version, and a few cosmetic choices for the guitar (matching headstock, Custom JP "Shield" fret markers). If you like acoustic playing, I highly recommend the Piezo as you can get some great sound out of it. It's also recommended to get the piezo even if you don't think you'll use it as you may regret it later.

A few personal favorite color choices of mine: Graphite Pearl, Mystic Dream, Carbon Blue Pearl, Pearl Redburst, Egyptian Smoke, Sapphire Black.

:D

I occasionally play in drop d, but not much is necessary when detuning...the JP's bridge is one of the best non-floyd trems out there in tuning reliability. Also, not all color choices listed on the options are available for the JP. The colors listed on there have a dot under the model of guitar that they are available on. Most colors are available on the JP with an exception to the trans colors and the bursts (and Luke Blue which is specifically for Steve Lukather's signature guitar).

The neck is slim, and extremely comfortable. Where did you see that it was thick?

I personally love the D-Sonic too! I bought mine and put it in, but I think it definitely suits my amp better than the old bridge pickup (92 Dual Rectifier)

You can Drop D it, but you will need to set the bridge up specifically to do so - and again if you want to go back to standard.

The newer JPs come with the DSonic. The old ones didn't. Some people prefer the older bridge pickup, some prefer the DSonic.

thanks,
The JPs bridge floats. On any floating bridge when you detune a string the others are going to go out of tune. So you'll have to re-tune all the strings or block the bridge, use a tremol-no, etc.

Drop D:

In my band we do a few drop D songs. One of my songs is in drop D. The only real advantage the JP trem has over a floyd rose is that you wont run out of tuning like you can with the fine tuners on a floyd rose. That's because the locks are on the tuners themselves. It is a floating bridge so dropping to D will knock the other strings sharp so itll take a few mins to get the tuning bang on. So it's doable in a rehearsal situation but not something youd want to do midset at a gig. I keep my N4 in drop D jsut for that reason. Hope that helps.

Ah-ha, so that's why you decided to sell your Ibanez...

If you want to check out the neck, talk to me.

Um, doesn't the bridge drop when you detune it?

Yea a bit. If I was loaded I'd have a JP6 setup for Drop - D. But, in all honesty, Ican't see that dropping the low E to D is going to hurt the intonation that much. I have known pro's drop d in the middle of a set on the same guitar.
