Do Silhouettes still come with the quick connect system (for quickly changing out loaded pickguards)? How about the Silhouette Specials?

They are great. I've actually added molex connectors to my Morse and AL, given how often I've taken off the p/g to do something stupid to them ...

Beej, I like your thinking. It's too bad that quick-connect methods are not more prevalent. EMG uses them for their pickups, but why can't those be used for all wiring components?

I'm assuming they still do it, but I haven't taken seen a naked Sil Spec, etc. in a while. Maybe somebody will chime in.

Balance- always wondered the same thing. Soldering is much less expensive and less time consuming than crimping on quick disconnects. But would have been cool if there was a standard for connecting parts. Even better if they could be swapped out w/o having to remove a pickguard.

Hi Elif,

I recently changed the pickguard on my Silo Special (made in 2008). I'm a bit of a tool when it comes to electronics and I'm not sure exactly what you mean when you reference the quick connectors. I did take pics though. I'm hoping you'll see what you want to see (or what you don't want to see :) ).

I will say this, I did not have to do anything major to change the pickguard. Once I removed the knobs, unscrewed the pickups, and pulled off the silent circuit (just double sided foam tape), the pickguard was free and I replaced it.

I hope this helps!

Nicely done.

That big white thing- that's the Molex quick disconnect. You just pull the two ends apart and your pickguard is free.

the "molex" connector (or quick connector) is the white two piece contraption underneath the orange backed pot in pic #1. You just pull it apart and the pickguard can be taken away from the guitar, which is what i'd do if replacing the pickguard. I'd take the pickguard assy. to a place to work on it, like the kitchen table or in front of the TV while there was a game on or a good movie. Know what I mean Vern?

beat me to it Jason...... you wiley rascal....

LOL

You can also get the molex connectors (male and female parts) from EBMM customer service. Do specify the three wire variety if you want to connect the battery up to a Silent Circuit.

I've got them on my Subs too....

(saving the world, one molex connector at a time)

I want those molex connectors for my SUB....but do I really have to get them across the big pond? Or could that be parts that I may get at a local dealer for RC models and parts?

they're available from electonics parts distributors - like Mouser, or perhaps a UK equivalent

I'd image that in Taiwan they have truckloads of them... if you can't find then readily available then you could use any two piece connector really, like some that are in automobiles..... just go to a junkyard and cut a few out of some wrecks, then you will have to figure out how to get the pins out or just splice onto the existing wires. ..... lots of automobile connectors have unused pins in them....... hummm..... some ideas..... or try your RC guy for some ideas too.....

or how about going to molex website and ask them who has them in the UK.

Molex | Connectors, Interconnects and Cable Assemblies

Standard .062"

Or get them through "Strings and Things"

The EBMM part # is M05558 for the three wire for silent circuit but for Subs you can use the two wire part # M05559

If you use the ones M05558 for a Sub and are adding an SC you'll have to ask for an extra contact pin.

As Jim says, I'm sure you can source 'em locally. I buy 'em from Mouser who ships to Canada.

Very handy if you have a guitar you do any kind of regular work to, or if you have multiple p/g assemblies. (I swap the original singles/noiseless into my AL from time to time, it's a breeze with this.)

Just like the guys above, I added a Molex to my Sub.

These connectors are widely used on PC Power Supplies, carrying power to optical and hard drives.

If you find a good PC modding store near you, they'll definately carry them.

One of the best in my opinion is Kustom PCs, based right here in sunny Scotland.

Kustom PCs 4-Pin Molex
Kustom PCs Molex Pins

There are specific crimping tools for molex pins, but armed with a gnarly set of pliers and invention you'll do fine.

Thanx, brothers. A few Googles later, I found out that there are loads of connectors available in virtually any electronic store here in Germany. The (most probably China mass-made) 4pin connectors are cheapest....just a few (Euro) Cents :)
